The official Lies of P account has tweeted that the game reached 7 million players worldwide. For the developers, this is a special occasion since this title launched as a new IP.
Its milestone is made more impressive by the fact that it was released as part of the somewhat oversaturated Souls-like genre. Round8 Studios took a few risks, making the combat system more focused on parries than traditional dodging.
However, these elements came together to create one of the genre’s finest new additions. Lies of P also launched on Xbox Game Pass, so the subscription helped the team reach more players from the beginning.
Additionally, collaborating with Microsoft enabled the team to market the Souls-like better.
Lies of P adapts the famous story of Pinocchio, giving players a sense of familiarity. However, Round8 Studios used the concept to present a dark and often twisted narrative.
We believe the game deserves every bit of the success it has found in the last six months. Future DLC has been confirmed, with Round8 Studios also preparing for a sequel based on Unreal Engine 5.
Lies of P has enough appeal to turn into a full-blown franchise for Round8 Studios. Following these milestones, the team appears to have realized its potential and is now moving to rapidly expand the IP.
