The Witcher 3 Remastered launches in just a few more days, and CDPR has created quite a lot of excitement for this title. Boasting multiple visual enhancements and several quality-of-life upgrades, the remastered version offers a notable step up over the original.

However, a recent comparison video from the team has created doubts within the fandom, with some saying the remastered version looks worse than the original.

Why it matters: This is not the first time a remastered version of a game has divided fans due to stylistic choices and art-related changes.

CDPR’s latest comparison aims to showcase some of the visual upgrades in The Witcher 3 Remastered. 

However, many Twitter users have noted that the original version somehow looks better in this particular comparison. Users like Blogos pointed out that the particle effects in the original are noticeably better-looking, while the latter’s reflections also seem somewhat disappointing.

Despite the addition of ray-tracing in the remastered version, multiple fans clearly have contentions with the game’s overall lighting and reflections. Some also feel the new version has worse textures in certain instances.

The fire sparks looked way better than the single line of fire on the right. There’s absolutely no reflection of the fire on the water anymore.

Of course, not everyone agrees that the older version looks better. Some have pointed out that the newer version still looks a lot more polished, even if this particular comparison doesn’t show its strengths too well.

Elsewhere, some have pointed out that both versions of the game ultimately pale in comparison to the original pre-release E3 gameplay footage.
