- CDPR wants The Witcher 3 Remastered to feel closer to modern releases.
- The studio says quality-of-life changes can make the original harder to revisit.
- This remaster tweaks gameplay elements like the camera, animations, and a lot more.
CDPR recently announced The Witcher 3 Remastered, in addition to the Songs of the Past DLC.
In particular, the former has garnered a lot of praise so far, especially since it brings a plethora of changes to the core RPG experience of this fan-favorite classic. The game offers so many changes, in fact, that CDPR says it makes the original hard to return to.
Why it matters: The Witcher 3 is widely considered to be among the best open-world games ever, but CDPR is significantly improving on the experience.
CDPR’s main goal with The Witcher 3 Remastered is to make it feel like a game released in the modern era, as opposed to another RPG re-release with sharper visuals.
According to PC Gamer, CDPR said the new improvements are easy to get used to, making it difficult to go back to the original version. The team ultimately wants the game to feel natural for players who are used to today’s open-world RPGs.
As such, this version of the game tweaks numerous parts of The Witcher 3, including animations and gameplay. As CDPR puts it, the team built many elements of this remastered version from scratch, including the camera, pathfinding, etc.
It’s so easy to get used to these improvements that it’s hard to go back.

Of course, the original RPG is no slouch itself, but this comment does highlight just how many improvements CDPR is bringing to the table with the remastered version.
