We knew that The Witcher 3’s new DLC, Songs of the Past, would be showcased at Gamescom ONL. What came as a total surprise was the announcement of the remaster, which is amazingly free for current owners.
The Witcher 3 Remastered brings in tons of new, much-needed upgrades, and fans are praising CD Projekt Red for making the update free for owners. They also believe most other studios would charge them for such upgrades.
Why it matters: Normally, when studios do remasters like this, they charge $40-$50 for the complete updated game, and at least $10 from current owners to upgrade to the remastered; however, CDPR is doing none of it.
Fans have taken to various platforms to praise The Witcher 3 Remastered for being totally free. In addition, users who only have the base version of the game can also acquire both of its outstanding DLCs completely free.
The remaster is getting 20+ major and minor tweaks; some of the most notable ones include:
- Free upgrade for all The Witcher 3 owners
- Improved environment, NPC, and monster textures
- Major enhancements to foliage
- Reworked lighting, rendering, and ray tracing
- Enhanced combat
- Revamped animations, brutal new finishers, and an adaptive camera
- Revamped mount handling
- Reimagined skill system
- Overhauled skill tree that modernizes character progression
Now, these are just some of the most prominent ones. It is also getting stuff like path tracing on PC, complete PS5 Pro and Xbox Play Anywhere support, updated DLSS models, and much more on September 29.
CDPR is on a roll, and fans absolutely love it. The Polish studio has become one of the most beloved in the industry, and this free update is appreciated. And for Witcher fans, the next couple of years are going to be a blast.
