PlayStation Working On Next Big Gran Turismo Entry!

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation studio Polyphony Digital is now hiring for Gran Turismo 8.
  • The team is aiming to improve the series’ simulation experience with this entry, among other things.
  • Fans should expect the racing title to launch at some point during the PS6’s lifecycle.

The Gran Turismo series has long been a staple of the PlayStation family of consoles, and many even consider it superior to the likes of Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon.

Multiple years after its release, PlayStation is still supporting Gran Turismo 7, the series’ latest entry, with new content. However, various job listings now indicate that the gaming giant is ready to move on to a brand new entry.

Why it matters: The Gran Turismo series is one of PlayStation’s longest-running first-party IPs, and it has also sold millions of units over the years.

According to various job listings currently live on the Polyphony Digital website, a brand new Gran Turismo project is now in the works. The team is looking to hire a Build Engineer, a Racing Game Programmer, a Vehicle Simulation Programmer, and more for this project.

Additionally, the Vehicle Simulation Programmer job listing suggests Polyphony Digital intends to significantly overhaul the simulation experience for Gran Turismo 8. As part of this job, the programmer will work on improving the series’ simulation engine as a whole, so it could benefit both Gran Turismo 7 and the next mainline entry.

Of course, fans should not expect to see Gran Turismo 8 before the next generation of PlayStation arrives.

With the game currently being in production, it would be a safe bet to expect the title to launch at some point during the PS6’s lifespan. Although a release window has yet to be decided, the PS6 is not expected to launch before 2028, so the next Gran Turismo entry is still a few years away for now.
