Paramount Also Has A Call Of Duty Movie In The Works.

Story Highlight
  • Paramount is developing a live-action film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
  • Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the man behind the Transformers film series, is producing the movie.
  • Paramount is also working on a Call of Duty adaptation with Activision.

Ever since its post-launch resurgence, Cyberpunk 2077 has become one of the most popular gaming franchises on the planet. The game has sold over 40 million copies worldwide, while also producing a beloved anime adaptation that debuted on Netflix.

A sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is already in development, with a separate spin-off title based on the anime also rumored to be in production alongside the mainline entry. Now, another new project based on the IP has reportedly entered development.

Why it matters: Cyberpunk 2077 has already exceeded expectations after its disastrous launch, and this film adaptation will only take the RPG to new heights in the entertainment world.

According to a report from Deadline, Paramount is developing a live-action film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who has worked on the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises, will produce the movie alongside CD Projekt Red, which holds the rights to the franchise.

Paramount, which officially completed its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Brothers this week, is investing heavily in video game adaptations. Besides Cyberpunk 2077, the entertainment giant is also working on a Call of Duty film, in addition to a Street Fighter adaptation that is set to launch later this month.

With CD Projekt Red reportedly developing DLC and additional content for Cyberpunk 2077, it doesn’t look like the game is going to die anytime soon. The RPG already had a major resurgence on Steam earlier this year, hitting 100k concurrent players over 5 years after launching.

Cyberpunk 2077 saw a massive resurgence on Steam earlier this year.

Now, with CD Projekt Red also developing season 2 of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which is set to release on October 20th, fan interest in the IP is certainly going to hit a new high thanks to these adaptations. Considering how the studio is working on multiple projects in the Cyberpunk universe, this film couldn’t come at a better time for CD Projekt Red.
