CDPR recently confirmed a new sales milestone for Cyberpunk 2077. The incredibly popular sci-fi RPG has hit 40 million sales recently, beating The Witcher 3 to this figure.
Coinciding with this announcement, Cyberpunk 2077 is now going through a huge resurgence. In fact, the game is currently doing the best it has done in the past 2 years on Steam.
Why it matters: Cyberpunk 2077’s success story is unusual and one very few games can hope to match. It also sets up The Witcher 4 for immense success in the coming years.

Cyberpunk 2077 recently peaked at over 100,000 concurrent Steam players. This figure marks the highest player count for the game since November 2023, making July 2026 the best month for the RPG in almost three years.
The last time Cyberpunk 2077 was this popular was back in September and October of 2023, which marked the arrival of Update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion. Needless to say, the ongoing resurgence is a huge deal for the title.
The ongoing interest in CDPR’s latest release can also be attributed to the huge sale on Steam. At present the game is being sold at a 70% discount, driving it to the top 5 Steam best-sellers list.

Last year, Cyberpunk 2077 was also released for the Nintendo Switch 2. This, combined with CDPR’s constant efforts to update the game, has kept millions interested in the RPG long after its initial release in 2020.
Moving forward, fans can look forward to the arrival of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. If the previous anime is anything to go by, this adaptation could bring an all new audience to the game across various platforms.
