- Xbox could put Halo under Activision Blizzard in the future, claims insider Jez Corden.
- The leadership wants to better structure the IP so it can deliver on more of its unrealized potential.
- The executives are looking at Activision Blizzard’s way of handling its projects for the franchise.
From toxic leadership to development troubles, the Halo series has faced one issue after another under the rebranded 343 Industries. The IP’s future is in danger, so Xbox’s iconic shooter needs to take a significant step to reclaim its lost glory.
However, no one would have expected such a radical shift. The latest report suggests Xbox plans to put Halo under Activision Blizzard in the future.
This ‘crazy rumor’ comes via credible Xbox insider Jez Corden, who heard these rumblings amid the new leadership’s plans to revitalize its struggling core franchises, including Halo.
Why it matters: Suddenly moving Halo to Activision could change the IP entirely as we know it. The series could lose the unique creative identity it fostered under Halo Studios, but Activision’s presence could also help it realize more of its untapped potential.
Speaking in the latest episode of the Xbox Two podcast, Jez Corden clarifies that Xbox aims to structure Halo better so it can deliver on most of its unrealized potential it once boasted during the classic era.
The recent entries in the series have repeatedly failed to hit the mark under Halo Studios. Xbox arguably considers this radical change necessary to bring the IP back on track.
I heard a crazy rumor that they might put Halo under Activision. […] this is the kind of thing that they’re looking at, ‘How do we structure Halo so it can actually start delivering on the level of potential that it actually has?’
-Xbox Insider, Jez Corden.
Therefore, Xbox is looking at how Activision Blizzard handles its projects, thanks to its consistent frequency and stability over the years. The leadership reportedly believes ‘Halo could function like a Blizzard franchise.’

It is best to take the rumor with a grain of salt, as Jez has also yet to verify these rumblings.
On a side note, the current team is allegedly developing multiple other projects in the series besides Campaign Evolved, including a mainline entry and multiple remakes.
