PS6 Won't Try Too Hard To Compete With PC!

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation has recently shifted its focus away from PC ports.
  • Sony states that it does not want the PS6 to compete with PCs.
  • Instead, the gaming giant will focus on providing more unique offerings catered to the console segment.

PlayStation has recently abandoned the PC platform after supporting it for nearly half a decade. It is said that upcoming titles like Marvel’s Wolverine and recently released games like Ghost of Yotei won’t be ported to PC as a result.

Addressing its strategy further, PlayStation has outlined its future goals in a recent Q&A. PlayStation simply does not intend to compete with PC moving forward.

Why it matters: Until recently, PlayStation saw the PC as enough of a threat that it intended on capitalizing on the market. The sudden shift in perspective highlights how PlayStation is changing its vision for the PS6 and beyond.

PlayStation’s Future Games Will Skip PC

Last month, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hideaki Nishino was asked in a Q&A meeting whether Sony would try to win over lost PlayStation customers who migrated to PC in the future.

The CEO responded that PlayStation has broader goals, as opposed to simply serving as an alternative to PC. PlayStation is currently focused on expanding and delivering its value in a manner unique to the console ecosystem.

CEO Hideaki Nishino highlighted how PlayStation has recently taken steps to expand beyond the living room. He pointed to Sony’s proprietary PlayStation monitors as one part of this strategy.

Ultimately, this response further highlights the growing distance between Sony and the PC platform.

For the next-generation platform, rather than simply serving as an alternative to PC, we aim to deliver value that is unique to PlayStation.

The PS6 Won’t Try Too Hard To Win Over PC Gamers

It’s no secret that modern consoles and PCs have become very similar today, so Sony’s new perspective on the situation could lead to more innovation and creativity within this space.

As it aims to distinguish the console and PC business, PlayStation could end up taking more risks with the PS6.
