RTX 5060 Ti 16GB Selling At 2x MSRP Signals The End of Budget Gaming

Higher-Tier Variants Are Selling For Even More Than 2x!

Story Highlight
  • Nvidia recently had another GPU price increase, taking them to their highest point ever.
  • The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB now starts at $800, nearly twice the amount of its $429 MSRP.
  • This marks the end of budget gaming, which had already been on a huge decline.

Gaming used to be a hobby that came in all shapes and sizes. Only last year, you could’ve built a decent 1080p gaming PC for around $500, but following RAMageddon, the market hasn’t been the same, and budget gaming is in decline.

Just when everyone thought it couldn’t get any worse, Nvidia recently had another price hike, taking GPU prices to a new high. The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB now costs almost twice its MSRP, signalling the end of budget gaming

Why it matters: The RTX 5090 had already been selling 135% over its original MSRP, but that GPU is only for a certain audience. The budget cards are what most people buy, and things aren’t looking too good for that category.

The cheapest 5060 Ti 16GB is selling for nearly twice the original MSRP

On Newegg and multiple other retailers, the RTX 5060 Ti is now selling for $800 or even more. For context, the MSRP was just $429, so it is selling for 2x the price or even more with certain higher-end variants.

Now, gaming is at a point where even 8GB VRAM doesn’t seem enough. New Steam data shows that 16GB GPUs have overtaken the 8GB models as the most popular choice, and the RTX 5060 Ti is the entry point for new GPUs.

Budget gaming is nearing its end based on the current prices

There are other options like the RX 9060 XT 16GB, which are still cheaper, but the masses prefer Nvidia. You can also get a used GPU with higher VRAM; however, for new cards, the obnoxiously priced RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is your best bet.
