- Asha Sharma wants to help Xbox innovate and make Project Helix an affordable console.
- The CEO says the company can’t raise prices amid declining hardware sales.
- Xbox is making fundamental changes to its business model to bring the cost of Project Helix down.
The buzz around Xbox has been surprisingly positive ever since Asha Sharma took over the company this year. The new CEO has slashed the price of Game Pass, made a dedicated network for fan feedback, and is considering bringing exclusives back to the platform.
The real test of the Xbox boss will be the upcoming Project Helix, however, which is reportedly going to be the most expensive iteration of the console so far. But if Asha Sharma gets her way, the new hardware will be affordable for fans despite the memory crisis.
Why it matters: For Xbox to compete with PS6, Project Helix needs to be in a similar price range, or the company will lose another generation to Sony.
While talking to Bloomberg Tech, Asha Sharma stated that she is here to help Xbox innovate and make Project Helix an affordable console for consumers. The CEO pointed out that prices have gone up at the tail end of this generation instead of crashing due to the AI boom, and her next 100 days will be spent fixing this problem.
I think it’s expensive if we do not innovate. And, I came to help with that problem. I don’t think you can raise prices through the hardware crisis that we’re seeing. It will require fundamental changes in terms of how we innovate and how we think about the business models and how we bring this to market, and we’re working on that.
Sharma also admitted that Xbox can’t afford to increase hardware costs in the forthcoming generation, as it is already facing a crisis in the form of declining console sales. According to the new boss, the company is working on making changes to its business model and how it innovates new hardware to bring the price of Project Helix down.
Reliable insiders have claimed that Xbox Project Helix will retail for $1,200. However, with a full-fledged AMD Magnus APU and Steam Integration to boast, the console will be as powerful as a $3,000 PC.

Regardless, with the PS6 reported to be half the price of Project Helix, the new Xbox CEO might need to fulfill her promise of delivering an affordable console to compete with Sony.
