- AMD processors are now utilised by 45% of Steam players.
- The company has gained 5% of the market share in the last 8 months.
- On the other hand, Intel is on a constant decline according to the Steam hardware survey.
Ever since the Ryzen CPUs started gaining popularity in the late 2010’s, AMD has been stealing market share from its competitor, Intel, every year. The latter has been embroiled in multiple controversies over the last few years, while the Ryzen series has offered fans consistent performance at unbeatable prices.
Over on Steam, AMD CPUs have been picking up more consumers and increasing their share of the market, reaching 40% last year. Now, the Ryzen processors have hit a new peak on the platform, coming ever closer to overtaking Intel.
Why it matters: AMD deserves this success as the company’s processors have been decimating competition through innovative ideas for the last few years.

As revealed by the Steam Hardware survey for May 2026, 44.97% of players now use an AMD processor for gaming, setting a new record for Team Red on the platform. The utilisation of the company’s CPUs has jumped by 5% in the last 8 months, as Ryzen processors accounted for 40% of the users in August 2025.
On the other hand, Intel has lost over 2% of its market share on Steam since February 2026, which AMD has successfully capitalised on. In May alone, Intel lost almost 1% of Steam’s 147 million player base to Team Red, showcasing a worrying trend for the American company.
Considering how AMD processors like Ryzen 9 9950X3D are selling like hotcakes on the market, this surge in Steam proliferation isn’t surprising. The company’s X3D processors have built a hefty lead over Intel in the market, outselling its competitor’s products on Amazon despite carrying a hefty price tag.

Due to the ongoing memory crisis, both Intel and AMD have announced price hikes for their consumer CPU sector. Hence, the AI boom has hindered the rise of AMD. But from the looks of it, Team Red could surpass its competitor in the CPU market sooner rather than later.
