The Hardware Will Be Very Disruptive For The High-End Console Market.

Story Highlight
  • Xbox Project Helix Will Be equivalent to a $2,000-$3,000 gaming PC.
  • The console’s hefty $1,200 price tag is validated by its high-end PC build.
  • According to the insider, the hardware will be as disruptive for the console market as MacBook Neo was for laptops.

Ever since Xbox announced the next-gen Project Helix, the gaming community has been trying to figure out details about the console. Credible reports suggest that the upcoming hardware will be more like a PC,  containing 32 GB of RAM and a full-fledged AMD Magnus APU.

Even though the makeup of the console sounds exciting, the estimated $1,200 cost is not sitting well with fans, considering it’s more than double the Xbox Series X launch price. However, according to a credible insider, Project Helix will be well worth this amount because it’s as powerful as a high-end PC.

Why it matters: Even though the $1,200 cost can detract a lot of casual buyers, Xbox Project Helix might be able to find an audience thanks to its high-end PC build.

While speaking on the Broken Silicon podcast, Insider Moore’s Law Is Dead stated that Xbox Project Helix will be well worth the $1,200 price tag, as the console is similar to a $2,000-$3,000 gaming PC.

If Project Helix has a PC mode, it could become a similarly disruptive product to the mid to the high-end pre-builds as Apple’s MacBook Neo has been for cheap laptops. Yes, it will be expensive for a console, but guys, if it’s even $1,200, it’s like a $2-3,000 gaming PC. That’s disruptive.

The leaker explained that the upcoming hardware will be like a high-end PC, even utilising the same AMD RDNA5 GPU. Of course, Xbox Project Helix won’t be equivalent to an ultra-level PC gaming rig, but it’s going to be much more powerful than your average console.

Furthermore, the insider also stated that its APU will be the biggest in console history, and with the addition of a PC mode, Xbox Project Helix will be a highly disruptive product in the high-end console market. Hence, validating its $1,200 price to a certain degree.

Project Helix
The console will deliver high-end PC performance but with a more expensive price tag.

Reports have already predicted that Xbox Project Helix will be twice as powerful as the PS6, and the company is not developing a custom GPU for the console this time around.
