Multiple Insiders Suggest Valve Working On Home Console Like PS5 And Xbox Series S|X

Fourth Main Console Manufacturer?

Story Highlight
  • The console market is currently dominated by three companies, but it appears that a fourth one may soon join the ranks.
  • According to several insiders, Valve is developing a home console that could be a direct competitor to the next-generation Xbox and PlayStation.
  • It appears that Valve is taking this device seriously, and it is being treated as a legitimate console.

The console market is currently dominated by three major companies: Sony (PlayStation), Nintendo, and Microsoft (Xbox). While Xbox’s presence in the console market has decreased significantly, it is still one of the companies that revolutionized gaming.

Aside from the Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation, there is another console that is quite popular, and that is the Steam Deck. However, it can’t be considered among those who dominate the market, but it seems that Valve doesn’t want it to stay that way always

Many insiders have now suggested that Valve is working on a home console, similar to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X, which, if true, is a significant development.

Why it matters: Valve’s Steam is the most loved gaming platform of all time, and due to its popularity, the home console may sell like hotcakes if it features better options and hardware than the current or the next-gen consoles.

Steam Deck Is Popular, But Not As Popular As Other Handhelds Like Nintendo Switch

Moore’s Law is Dead, a well-known insider in the industry who is either a hit or miss, has revealed that, according to an internal leak, Valve is working on a next-generation device with considerable power. The console will be based on AMD’s upcoming Zen 6-based “Magnus” APU, which is rumored to power the next-gen Xbox and PlayStation

The Steam Deck was, in essence, an experiment by Valve to gauge the reception from the gaming community. However, according to an insider, the company is taking the next iteration seriously and treating it like a proper console, with full-scale support and a long-term vision.

During the podcast, Jimmy noted that Sony is going out of its way to support Steam Deck. As multiple Sony’s first-party titles are now Steam Deck verified, he thinks that the company is making efforts to make them feel native on another platform.

This suggests that there may be a secret partnership between Valve and Sony, but mainly in the handheld space.
