- Onimusha: Way of the Sword has now reached 1 million total sales.
- Capcom says it is now more focused than ever on bringing back dormant IPs.
- These IPs include titles like Devil May Cry, Dino Crisis, and others that haven’t received brand new games in a while.
Capcom is home to some of the world’s strongest IPs when it comes to games. The excellence of Resident Evil and Street Fighter aside, the gaming giant has many IPs that have remained relatively untapped in the modern era.
However, Capcom is now more interested than ever in bringing back these IPs, especially after Onimusha: Way of the Sword’s latest success.
Why it matters: The publisher’s successful run in the games industry rivals the biggest teams at the moment, so classic IPs returning could propel the studio to further heights.

Capcom’s latest press release confirms that Onimusha: Way of the Sword has now sold over 1 million copies. The sales figure is important because the Onimusha series has returned with a new major release after many years in 2026.
Moreover, the game has achieved 1 million sales in a single day. This milestone also means that the entire series has sold 10 million copies. Later in the same press release, Capcom confirms it intends to reactivate older IPs.
This is something the publisher already outlined in the past, so Capcom’s willingness to reiterate this focus in the latest press release suggests the gaming giant is now more focused than ever on this goal.
Capcom is focusing on re-activating IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently.
As part of these efforts, an IP like Dino Crisis could come back. Capcom has already confirmed work on a new Okami entry, and although Devil May Cry isn’t dormant in the typical sense, the gaming giant will likely offer a brand new entry for this franchise as well.
The Japanese publisher could even consider bringing back a niche series like Asura’s Wrath at some point. All in all, Capcom fans should look forward to plenty of exciting things when it comes to the next few years.
