As expected, a myriad of upcoming video games have changed their release dates to avoid competition with GTA 6. Major AAA titles like Fable from Playground Games were delayed outside their Fall 2026 window to prevent clashing with the most anticipated launch in gaming history.
However, some studios have stuck to their guns and kept the November launch date despite the looming threat of GTA 6. From the looks of it, Nintendo will be going down this route for one of its most anticipated games of the year.
Why it matters: Nintendo’s determination to do things its own way is because of the hard work it has done to retain and consistently amaze its consumer base.
On his YouTube channel, insider NateTheHate revealed that he expects Nintendo to drop The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake the same week GTA 6 launches. According to the insider, the upcoming remake will release in either the first week of November or it’ll directly compete with the open-world title in the third week.
As to when in November I expect Ocarina of Time, I would say either the first week of the month or the week of Grand Theft Auto 6.
NateTheHate emphasized that Nintendo doesn’t mind going head-to-head with Rockstar this Fall, even if GTA 6 will most probably outsell Ocarina of Time. The last two months of the year are historically the strongest period for Nintendo software sales; hence, despite the competition, the Japanese giant is confident in releasing the remake this Fall.
Considering how GTA 6 doesn’t have a Nintendo Switch 2 port at launch, the game won’t cannibalise software sales on the platform. Therefore, according to NateTheHate, there will definitely be a Nintendo and Rockstar showdown in November.
With GTA 6 expected to sell a whopping 85 million copies in the first two months alone, there is no doubt that Ocarina of Time won’t be able to compete with the game commercially. However, Nintendo’s confidence in the remake to divert attention away from the biggest gaming launch of this generation is commendable.
