Whatever Technical Hurdles Developers Had Been Allegedly Facing Are Now Overcome!

Story Highlight
  • Insider claims that GTA 6 is coming to the Switch 2.
  • He says that the port is scheduled for 2027.
  • The technical hurdles in development have been overcome, and many Switch 2 port specialists have also been brought on board.

GTA 6 is set to launch later this year as a console-exclusive title, with the PC version likely to launch next year at the latest. However, Rockstar’s next ambitious open-world title isn’t just coming to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC — instead, the publisher is allegedly working on a Switch 2 port for the game, too.

Rumors of a Nintendo Switch 2 port had been circulating last year, but they’ve now resurfaced, and, according to the report, the release is targeting 2027

Why it matters: With the release of the Switch handhelds, Nintendo has captured a large share of video gamers, which makes sense, given that GTA 6 would be releasing on the smaller form-factor device.

According to insider Nash Weedle, a GTA 6 port for the Switch 2 is in active development, and it won’t arrive at launch. Instead, it will release in 2027, and Rockstar had allegedly been facing development hurdles for the console, which have now been overcome.

Moreover, specialists for Switch 2 ports have also been brought in to work on development, according to the insider. He also added that other insiders have reiterated his report, although it remains unclear who he may be referring to.

Considering GTA 6’s grand scale, it’s hard to believe that such a big title would ever come to a handheld like the Switch 2. Even on current-gen consoles, many found it hard to believe that GTA 6 would have to scale down to match the hardware.

Anyhow, Rockstar Games is one of the most talented studios, and if anyone can scale down a game for the Switch 2, it’s them. Switch 2 is more or less similar to the Xbox Series S in performance, so expect a toned-down version for both these consoles — considering this rumor even holds true anyhow.
