A Massive Partnership On Its Way?

Story Highlight
  • A new rumor suggests that PC Game Pass could be heading over to Steam.
  • Gabe Newell has previously shown interest in working with Microsoft.
  • This is strictly a rumor for now, as none of the companies have confirmed it.

Game Pass has been one of Xbox’s strengths in the past few years. Amid failing console sales, the subscription service is keeping the platform going, especially since the release of Call of Duty games on Game Pass.

A new rumor suggests that Microsoft could be teaming up with Steam to make the service available to an even wider audience.

Why it matters: Game Pass on Steam would benefit both platforms as this will allow a huge influx of new players.

Rumor suggests Game Pass could be coming to Steam

According to leaker extas1s, in the last few hours, there have been certain hints that Game Pass could soon be coming to Steam. The official announcement could be made at the Xbox Direct rumored to be happening in January.

The leaker further states that the whole scenario does make sense, as Valve CEO Gabe Newell has previously shown his intent to work with Microsoft. So, this could mean that both companies have finally struck a collaboration deal.

Steam hit a new record for concurrent players, with over 37 million

Furthermore, Steam is no stranger to partnerships. It already has an integration with EA Play, which makes the Game Pass addition just the cherry on top. This will also allow gamers to have an even better experience on Steam.

The platform has enjoyed a great year, with it hitting its record concurrent player count in 2024. Furthermore, it is also rumored to be working on the next mainline entry to its popular Half-Life franchise
