Suicide Squad Launch Sales Down By 33% Compared To Gotham Knights

Failed To Crack Top 10 Games of February!

Story Highlights
  • Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has seemingly performed well below expectations.
  • According to a report, it fell behind Gotham Knights by 33%, an already poorly received DC Comics title.
  • This leads to questions about Rocksteady Studios’ future.

People were skeptical about Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League ever since it was announced as a live service title. So, it’s no wonder the sales suffered, and the game performed below expectations.

However, the sales have been so bad that they are 33% lower than the already disappointing Gotham Knights.

Why it matters: Gotham Knights launched to a fairly lukewarm reception and sales. Therefore, this is not an encouraging report for Rocksteady Studios’ latest offering.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Is A New Type of Game For Rocksteady Studios

In the first five weeks after its launch, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League sold considerably fewer copies than Gotham Knights. According to Gamesindustry, it also failed to break into the top 10 best-selling European games of February.

Meanwhile, another disappointing title, Skull and Bones, managed to climb to the ninth spot. February did not have the most competition either, apart from the likes of Helldivers 2 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Following these results, there are concerns about the game possibly dooming Rocksteady Studios. As Jorraptor reports, it sold worse than 2021’s Guardians of the Galaxy by around 60%.

Rocksteady Studios has always been synonymous with quality, especially with titles like the Batman: Arkham Trilogy. However, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League has not been able to challenge this trilogy, falling behind in terms of player counts and quality.

Plenty of post-launch content is planned for the game, but with players already starting to leave, the live-service ambitions might not come to fruition in any meaningful ways.

It is also interesting to note that Rocksteady Studios has lost much of the talent that made the Batman Arkham series so memorable.

Founders Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker left the team in 2022, and the new leadership seems to be shackled by Warner Bros’ live-service push. We can only hope that this game won’t be the end of Rocksteady Studios.

The studio is still loved by fans for its work on reinventing the superhero genre and doing justice to Batman through arguably the best superhero game to date.
