Another Xbox Exclusive Destined For PS5?

Story Highlights
  • Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 might be getting a PlayStation 5 release.
  • Various Xbox exclusives are rumored to be taking a third-party approach.
  • Therefore, Ninja Theory’s latest release might be a timed Xbox exclusive.

The last few hours have likely proven to be quite busy for everyone at Microsoft and for all the wrong reasons. Reports have emerged that Microsoft is set to port its biggest titles to PlayStation 5.

This includes titles like Starfield and MachineGames’ Indiana Jones. However, this might not be the extent of Xbox’s plans as insiders expect games like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 to be part of this push.

Why it matters: Ninja Theory and Xbox have spent years crafting Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. Therefore, this result might be disappointing for executives like Phil Spencer, who promoted this game as an exclusive launch.

Earlier today, rumors about Starfield and Indiana Jones coming to PS5 surfaced, sparking debate about Xbox going too far with its multiplatform approach.

Hi-Fi Rush is all but confirmed for PlayStation and Nintendo. However, many have begun to question whether titles like Hellblade, Starfield, and Indiana Jones were necessary.

Hellblade 2 was anticipated as Xbox’s biggest title of 2024. Phil Spencer also dubbed the game as his most anticipated release of 2024. However, if the game will indeed go third-party, Xbox may not be the primary choice for those looking to play the game.

Assuming Hellblade 2 launches as a timed Xbox exclusive, PlayStation users are likely to just wait it out until the game arrives on PS5. This will further hurt Microsoft’s console business after it already underperformed last quarter.

Hellblade 2 is shaping up to be Xbox’s most cinematic first-party game yet

If these reports are indeed true, this could lead to the inevitable death of Xbox consoles. Microsoft already admitted they had lost the console wars, but the gaming giant is now heading into uncharted territory.

Sony also hinted at a bigger multiplatform focus for the future. However, we highly doubt that definitive games like God of War, The Last of Us, Horizon, and more will head to Xbox. That would beat the entire purpose of owning studios to develop exclusive games.

For now, everything we’ve heard so far is a rumor one way or another. Microsoft or Xbox haven’t officially confirmed anything, but a statement should be coming very soon.
