- The Baldur’s Gate 3 publishing director praised Modern Warfare 4’s narrative and cinematics in a recent post.
- The comment is interesting because Baldur’s Gate 3 is also recognized for its writing and character-driven storytelling.
- In general, Modern Warfare 4 has been receiving a lot of praise.
Call of Duty’s latest outing with Modern Warfare 4 has become quite the success story, garnering praise from both critics and fans. Player counts also reflect that the game is a much better entry than last year’s Black Ops 7.
As the praise for Modern Warfare 4 continues, a Larian Games developer has joined the conversation with praise for the title.
Why it matters: This year’s Call of Duty has seen much more positivity compared to various recent entries from the series, marking an interesting turning point for the IP.
Holy shit the new COD is insanely impressive narratively, cinematically and graphically. Did not expect so many technical flexes in the first 20 minutes.

Over on Twitter/X, Larian Games publishing director Michael Douse praised Modern Warfare 4, specifically the game’s campaign. He stated that the game’s first 20 minutes already impressed him in many ways due to the combination of cinematics, narrative, and graphics.
Douse’s comments are interesting because Baldur’s Gate 3, a game he worked on, was praised for similar elements. In particular, the game’s writing and storytelling became highlights of the experience.
This is also a huge contrast compared to last year’s Call of Duty after Black Ops 7’s campaign was heavily criticized.

Note that Modern Warfare 4 is the first Call of Duty to abandon PS4 and Xbox One consoles. As such, some of the praise revolving around the game comes from its current-gen nature.
