- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth requires two discs on the PS5.
- The game’s final file size is around 145GB.
- This file size is indicative of the game’s content since it offers around 100 hours of gameplay.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the biggest PlayStation game of February. Arguably 2024’s most anticipated release, this title will expand on the story of the original game through various changes to the remake trilogy.
The game will be released on 29 February and offers 100 hours of content. However, because of the ambitious approach to expanding the original release, Square Enix has not been able to keep the file size within 100GB.
Why it matters: Sizes of around 80-100GB are no longer surprising. However, very few games today require 145GB or more.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth takes up 145GB of storage.
This information comes from a popular data miner on Twitter. Additionally, PlayStation Game Size states a demo for the game is coming soon, which will unlock the Kupo Charm- Survival Set for the final release.
Recent interviews from Square Enix have revealed that the team almost needed 3 discs to ship the game. While it will launch with two discs this month, Square Enix had to make careful optimizations to stay within the current file size.
Modern AAA games like Alan Wake 2 require 85GB of storage on the PS5. Similarly, Spider-Man 2 needed 86GB, but these games are much shorter compared to the lengthy experience of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which offers a 40-50 hour long main story.
In this instance, PlayStation’s 1TB SSD for the Slim console should come in handy. However, with 667.2GB of usable storage on the base model, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth might replace a game or two on the console for many users.
With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth being among the few single-player titles to require this much storage, it will be interesting to see if other games follow suit, eventually approaching the 200GB mark as studios become more ambitious.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth promises to make players lose their minds. Therefore, a narrative full of twists and unexpected moments awaits players as they delve further into the story of Cloud and Sephiroth.
