The Fable reboot was supposed to release later this year, but Xbox changed the course of the title to avoid a busy fall 2026 window. It now comes out in February 2027, and Playground Games is giving out more information on the RPG.
The studio has revealed that the main story in Fable will last about 15 to 20 hours depending on your playstyle. This is much shorter than most other RPGs, where stories span even 40-50 hours on average.
Why it matters: This could be viewed from two different perspectives; first, some people love long, engaging stories; second, there are also others who like the accessibility and the convenience of a nice, concise plot.
Fable’s main story will last 15-20 hours, and 100% completion will take a similar number of additional hours. That’s about 30-40 hours of total play time, but there will still be stuff you will be able to do besides that.
We have around 15-20 hours of mainline quest gameplay, we have around 15-20 of side and open-world exploration gameplay.
Again, even Fable’s full playtime is shorter than an average AAA RPG game, where you can easily get over 100 hours. Some people are calling them out for it, but most people seem to be fine with this sort of length.
We are living in a very busy world where the attention spans of people have also become shorter. So, this playtime, despite being short for RPGs, does seem like the sweet spot for both the story and all the extras.
