Grocery Shopping Was Going To Be Mandatory Earlier In Development.

Story Highlight
  • According to YouTuber TGG, Rockstar cut out some realistic mechanics because they were going too far.
  • Rob Nelson told the YouTuber that the grocery mechanic was mandatory earlier on.
  • But the team cut it out and made it an optional system instead.

A few days on from the game’s extended reveal, and the world is still in awe at how GTA 6 looks. The title has floored every fan with its brilliant visuals, a map three times bigger than Red Dead Redemption 2, and attention to detail hard to find in any other video game.

The realistic depiction of NPCs and other mechanics like working out have also been praised by fans, with GTA 6 set to offer a more expansive and in-depth set of systems than the previous entries. As it turns out, Rockstar had even more realism in mind, but eventually decided not to go ahead with it.

Why it matters: Even though a lot of fans would prefer more realism, Rockstar’s decision to maintain the fast-paced dynamics of GTA instead is a good decision that gamers will end up liking.

According to YouTuber TGG, Rockstar initially planned to include even more realistic mechanics in GTA 6, but eventually cut some compulsory content as it was going a little too far. The YouTuber, who was invited to Rockstar North to see the game’s preview, stated that grocery shopping was going to be mandatory for players.

Rob (Nelson) literally said that at one point in development you had to go buy groceries, and they cut it out ’cause no, that’s a little too far.

However, Rockstar studio head Rob Nelson told TGG that the team cut it out of development as this brand of realism was going beyond what the GTA franchise is known for. Grocery shopping is still available in the upcoming title, but it’ll only be an optional addition that players can indulge in if they want.

The YouTuber also revealed more details about the in-depth gym mechanics in GTA 6, saying that Jason and Lucia have to buy a gym membership to work out and can even buy protein bars and protein shakes to improve their stamina.

GTA-6
Grocery shopping is going to be a part of the game, just not a mandatory one.

With Rockstar including 600,000 animations, a cutting-edge NPC system, an overhauled Wanted star system, and new relationship dynamics that will affect Jason and Lucia, it’s safe to say the amount of realism in GTA 6 is already overwhelming.

Do you think Rockstar should have gone all out with realism in the game? Is pulling back the right idea considering the nature of the franchise? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
