Capcom is one of the oldest Japanese video game studios, with many iconic franchises like Resident Evil and Street Fighter. Recent releases from such IPs have delivered a fresh direction, ensuring millions of new fans in the last few years.
This consistency has ensured over a 1200% stock increase for Capcom over the last decade. The recent financial report from Capcom also confirms that Resident Evil has sold over 146 million units worldwide.
Why it matters: The franchise is among the pioneers of the horror genre, and Capcom has maintained its relevance for several decades through exciting new entries and impressive remakes.
Capcom’s Q1 fiscal year report highlights improved profits and sales over the last year. This is thanks to recent titles like Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6.
The report also provides updated sales figures for Capcom’s most popular IPs. Unsurprisingly, Resident Evil leads the charts with over 146 million sales worldwide. Previously, the recently released remake crossed the 5 million sales mark.
According to Capcom, the IP had reached 142 million sales by May. Therefore, Resident Evil has achieved 4 million more sales in less than three months. Much of this can be attributed to the recent remake, but Resident Evil Village continues to perform well, recently reaching the 8 million sales milestone.
While most of Capcom’s IPs continue to grow, Devil May Cry has not been able to exceed 29 million sales. The popular action franchise appears to have stagnated, staying at similar sales from May 2023.
Nonetheless, the gaming giant is Japan’s biggest publisher, beating rivals like Sega and Bandai Namco. Capcom is doing better than ever, and the publisher has recently hinted at a surprise title expected to sell millions of copies next year.
As for the Resident Evil franchise, a reliable leaker claims the ninth mainline entry is scheduled for 2025. Additionally, Capcom will likely continue working on more remakes, potentially considering non-numbered entries like Code Veronica.
