CEO Believes GTA 6 Being A Bargain At $80 Is An Understatement!

Story Highlight
  • Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says GTA 6 is a bargain at the introductory price of $80.
  • He pointed out that Rockstar Games could have charged even more for the game due to its current hype.
  • The CEO says fans will find GTA 6 to overdeliver despite its higher-than-normal price.

GTA 6 is officially kicking up its marketing soon, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick couldn’t be any happier. According to the CEO, pre-order numbers so far are nothing short of splendid.

He also says that Rockstar Games made the right decision with the $80 pricing, but the team could have charged a lot more for the game.

Why it matters: GTA 6 has taken the leap to the $80 pricing standard after it was introduced by Nintendo earlier last year. Many were upset by this decision, but it seems Take-Two and Rockstar Games speculated on an even higher price at one point.

During the company’s latest earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick said that GTA 6 is priced at $80 to overdeliver. The CEO reiterated his past point regarding games being less expensive today than they used to be due to the sheer amount of content offered by modern AAA releases.

The Take-Two boss also says that Rockstar Games could have made any number of pricing choices. He implies GTA 6 would not have suffered as a result of a different pricing tier, but the team eventually settled on a price that would be considered a “bargain.”

In fact, Strauss Zelnick says that calling GTA 6 a bargain will prove to be a “gross understatement.”

Given the hype around the title, we could have made any number of other pricing choices. But our focus is on delivering way, way more value.

GTA 6
GTA 6 is shaping up to be the biggest release in the gaming scene by far.

Although some might not like the Take-Two CEO’s statement, polls conducted in the past do suggest that fans would not have minded buying GTA 6 for as much as $100. If anything, the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition being so popular proves that many are already spending over $100 on the title.
