Square Enix is now gearing up for the release of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which could be the last entry in the series to launch with a physical disc, marking the end of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy.
Although the trilogy is ending, this may not necessarily be the end of Final Fantasy 7. Square Enix has recently laid out its goals of pursuing this particular series with an ever-evolving future.
Why it matters: Previously, director Naoki Hamaguchi also expressed interest in working on another Final Fantasy 7 title.
Discussing the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy during the “From Reunion to Resolve” panel at PAX West, director Naoki Hamaguchi outlined various details about the franchise.
Outlining why Final Fantasy 7 was remade, he noted that one goal was to introduce the game to a brand new generation of players. However, Square Enix also wanted to keep the IP relevant for 20 to 30 years to come.
As per Naoki Hamaguchi, the trilogy was also meant to shape the IP into a franchise with an ever-evolving future.
Because of this goal, it will be interesting to see what Square Enix does next with the IP. The latest remake trilogy has proven that the series certainly has a lot of stardom, so it can continue to expand further.
