- Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is reportedly shipping on one PS5 disc with a required digital download.
- Fans are upset because the physical copy will not work as a complete offline package.
- Previously, Square Enix shipped Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on two discs, so fans are disappointed at the step back.
PlayStation’s latest State of Play was disappointing to a lot of fans, but it did come with an extensive look at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.
Square Enix confirmed the game’s release date for April 8 next year, but the team also revealed additional details about the physical edition. As per the gaming giant, this version of the game will require a massive download to play.
Why it matters: The Final Fantasy 7 Revelation physical edition can be considered a downgrade over previous entries in the remake trilogy, since those did not require a major download.
As confirmed by Square Enix, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will ship with a physical disc on all platforms, but players will still need a significant digital download to play the game.
The messaging suggests physical copies will ship with a single disc, with players being required to download the rest of the 130GB of game data over an internet connection. As such, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will be completely unplayable without an internet connection at first.
What makes this so interesting is the fact that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth shipped with two discs on the PS5 at release. It seems Square Enix has ditched this approach now, despite the Final Fantasy 7 trilogy director speaking out in favor of game preservation not too long ago.

The good news is that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will launch as a multiplatform title, reflecting Square Enix’s shift away from PlayStation exclusivity. However, many fans aren’t too happy with the team no longer prioritizing physical disc releases like before.
