Amid persisting demand for Sleeping Dogs 2, a film based on the popular series is moving close to production. Actor Simu Liu has now offered a promising update on the planned movie, telling fans that positive news about the adaptation should be coming soon.
Why it matters: Sleeping Dogs has been dormant for more than a decade despite maintaining a dedicated following. A successful film could introduce Wei Shen’s story to a much larger audience while potentially convincing the IP’s owner that there is still commercial demand for a sequel.
Responding to a fan asking about the project’s status, Liu hinted on Twitter/X that there are details he cannot currently discuss. However, the actor suggested the next public update should make Sleeping Dogs fans “pretty happy.”

The actor is also set to star in the much-anticipated Avengers Doomsday, so his work on Sleeping Dogs could reach an even larger audience following this film’s release. All of this would, of course, benefit Sleeping Dogs in the long run.
As per Simu Liu, the movie could even lead to a push for another Sleeping Dogs title. However, it may be too early to discuss something so far off into the future at this point in time.
