- The RTX 5080 now costs upwards of $2,000 across most retailers.
- This GPU initially launched at a $1,000 MSRP, making the new prices a huge bump.
- Prices will only get worse from here, with no signs of an end to memory shortages in sight.
Following months of graphics card price hikes, it’s no secret that the higher-end GPUs, especially Nvidia’s RTX 50 series, now cost thousands of dollars. As the saga of memory shortages and rising prices across the PC industry continues, the RTX 5080 has now begun to hit the $2000 price point.
Why it matters: Memory shortages have impacted practically all segments of consumer electronics due to price hikes across RAM kits, SSDs, and more.

Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5080 is now being listed close to the $2,000 mark at several U.S. retailers, adding more pressure on buyers already dealing with tight GPU availability.
Looking at retailers like Amazon, high-end RTX 5080 variants are selling for as much as $2,500. Meanwhile, even entry-level variants are priced at over $2,000. The situation isn’t too different when looking at other retailers like Best Buy or Newegg, highlighting just how bad PC gaming prices have gotten over the last few months.
As a reminder, the GeForce RTX 5080 first launched at a $1,000 MSRP. Prices have more than doubled since its launch in early 2025, making the situation quite grim.
Perhaps the worst part is that memory shortages aren’t expected to end anytime soon, so the worst may be yet to come. Here’s hoping PC gaming can somehow return to normal pricing in the near future.
