- A poll has revealed that 45% of PlayStation fans want to switch to PC.
- The end of physical disc production is the main reason behind this move for a majority of these players.
- Only 22% of PlayStation enthusiasts are willing to stick with the company after this unpopular move.
Over a week after the groundbreaking announcement, Sony is still facing criticism from every corner of the gaming industry for discontinuing physical disc production. The blindsiding reveal, alongside the impact it had on gaming industry economics, has shocked everyone from partners to developers.
Fans have not been kind to the company either, cancelling PS Plus subscriptions en masse and signing a petition to force Sony to reconsider this decision. As it turns out, a large majority of hardcore PlayStation fans are reportedly willing to leave the ecosystem forever because of this move.
Why it matters: Even though the knock-on effect on overall users may not be that big, Sony is certainly going to lose a sizable portion of its hardcore demographic because of this move.

In a poll conducted by Push Square, 45% of PlayStation players stated that they are seriously considering switching to PC, mainly because the company decided to go all-digital. Of the 6,742 fans who voted, only 22% choose to stick with the gaming giant despite this major shift in strategy.
Furthermore, 15% revealed that they had already made the switch from PlayStation to PC. When asked about the reason behind moving to PC or considering the change, almost half of the fans picked Sony’s decision to stop physical disc production, while console price hikes were the motivation for 9% of the voters.
Considering how fans online have already threatened to quit PlayStation as retaliation and are refusing to buy the company’s products, it feels like the digital-only move has angered a sizeable portion of players. Around 85% of hardcore PlayStation players are already against the strategy, and Sony staying quiet on social media is not setting out any fires.

Moreover, reports have stated that PlayStation is only pursuing such an unlikable plan as it will net the company more profit on digital game sales, and that is certainly not going to go down well with fans.
