- Fans have begun boycotting PlayStation following Sony’s update on physical games.
- Many have already cancelled their PS Plus subscriptions and are calling on others to do the same.
- Many are also making videos on YouTube to spread the boycott and send a message to Sony.
PlayStation recently confirmed that it would no longer support the production of physical game discs starting from 2028, and reactions to this information have been extremely negative, perhaps more so than even PlayStation foresaw.
As the backlash to the announcement continues, many gamers have begun cancelling PS Plus subscriptions in an attempt to boycott this decision.
Why it matters: PS Plus plays a huge role in PlayStation’s annual revenue, and the service also helps subsidize hardware sales from the PS5.

Over on Twitter, major PlayStation fans like Pyo have come out to speak against PlayStation’s latest update regarding physical games.
Multiple fans, including Pyo, have confirmed that they have already cancelled their PS Plus subscriptions. Audiences are of the opinion that doing so will get the message across to Sony and highlight the community’s grievances with this decision.
Other Twitter users, like MBG, have come forward to share their PS Plus cancellations in a similar manner. Similarly, fans like RoxieWolf have joined such users in the ongoing PS Plus boycott.
Amid the continuing backlash, however, PlayStation appears to have gone radio silent on social media platforms. Many have also begun to highlight the issue through YouTube videos, urging the fandom to come together and send a message to PlayStation through cancelled pre-orders and subscriptions.
Due to the ongoing backlash, it comes as no surprise that YouTube comments in such videos also mentioned gamers cancelling their PS Plus subscriptions.
These cancellations seem to range from the basic PS Plus Essential to the more expensive PS Plus Premium tiers. For now, gamers are waiting on a potential response from Sony on the matter, but the situation certainly looks quite grim.
