Resident Evil 9: Requiem was recently announced.
Following the announcement, it appears many players are revisiting the old titles in the franchise.
Titles like Resident Evil Outbreak, Resident Evil Village, and others have seen a considerable resurgence.
After much anticipation from the fans of the franchise, Resident Evil 9: Requiem was finally announced during the recent Summer Game Fest.
The title is said to have the longest development cycle, as Resident Evil 9: Requiem has been in the works for almost a decade and could end up being the most expensive project from Capcom. The hype around the title is massive.
Following the announcement, it appears that many fans are revisiting the old titles in the franchise, as many of the Resident Evil games have seen a massive resurgence.
Why it matters: Since the developers have already confirmed the release date of the title, and it is coming out in less than a year, fans appear to be catching up on the lore.
As seen above, Resident Evil Outbreak, which was released over two decades ago and is still only available to older hardware, has reached an all-time new peak of over 5.5k players on a fan-run server.
Since the upcoming title in the franchise features Grace Ashcroft, who is the daughter of Outbreak survivor Alyssa Ashcroft, fans are curious to learn more about the duo and are revisiting the older titles in the franchise.
Surprisingly, Resident Evil Outbreak isn’t the only game in the franchise that’s seen a resurgence, as other titles in the iconic series have seen players returning following the announcement of Requiem.

The latest major installment in the franchise, Resident Evil Village, has also experienced a significant resurgence, with over 7K players joining in the last 24 hours. Before the announcement, the title was averaging around 1K players.
Other installments in the franchise, like Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2 & 3, have also seen many players returning to the titles.
It has also been reported that Leon Kennedy will be the main protagonist in the title and an official announcement regarding this is expected soon. Nonetheless, are you excited about the title? Let us know your thoughts in the comments, or join Tech4Gamers forums.

ROG Xbox Ally will be able to run first-party PlayStation games, as per a Microsoft rep.
Every game playable on Windows will be available on the handheld, including Sony exclusives.
The console is a partnership with ASUS and will optimise performance beyond competitors like the Switch 2.
Fans have been waiting for this announcement for quite some time, and the wait is going to be worth it as PlayStation first-party titles will be playable on the upcoming console.
Why it matters: PlayStation titles being playable on an Xbox-branded console is a massive PR win for Microsoft and their Play Anywhere initiative.
Rog Xbox Ally will have two variations for players.
While discussing with Stephen Totilo whether Sony exclusives will run on the platform, a Microsoft representative stated that every game playable on a Windows PC will be available on the ROG Xbox Ally. Hence, all PlayStation first-party titles, such as God of War, Spider-Man, and Days Gone, on Steam will be playable on the Xbox-branded handheld.
What sets the ROG Xbox Ally apart from a standard Xbox console is that it can run any Windows-based title through Xbox, meaning games bought through digital storefronts like GoG, Steam, and Ubisoft Connect are predicted to grace this anticipated platform.
Because these handhelds run Windows, you have access to all the games you can play on Windows PCs.
Therefore, popular Sony PC ports The Last of Us, God of War, and Spider-Man are about to run without any hitch on the Xbox handheld. Compared to the Switch and Steam Deck, the console has a smaller screen but will be heavier, focusing on performance.
Nonetheless, the Play Anywhere initiative is Microsoft’s next avenue, and it is poised to achieve the impossible by bringing PlayStation titles to Xbox fans.

Glass skates are almost frictionless and can feel extremely sensitive, so you need to lower your DPI and practise getting used to them.
They also don’t stop because of your mousepad, and you have to intentionally stop them using your pinky, which might be hard for some to get used to.
While they’re good, they’re affected by external factors like humidity, temperature, wear and tear, and dust on the mousepad.
To get a better aim or have precise control over their cursor, people have resorted to all sorts of things: be it have a lighter mouse, controlling its DPI, switching to a smoother mousepad to even putting aftermarket skates in their mice.

While all of these help them, there is still one contender that is often overlooked when it comes to upgrades, which are glass skates. But do these actually provide benefits to the users when compared to the normal skates? Let’s find out.
Switching To Glass Skates
Right as you switch from standard PTFE glides to glass skates, you feel the immense difference. The mouse literally skates across the mousepad as if there is no friction at all. It’s almost as if it’s hovering above the mouse pad.
Abnormally Increased Sensitivity
With the glass skates on, the mouse is more sensitive to your touch which means that if you compare you two mouse side by side one with glass skates and one with standard PTFE glides, it’ll be hard for you to adjust on the glass skates one.
High Smoothness Of Glass Skates [Bottom] (Image Credits – YT/optimum)Moreover, to have a fair comparison, it’s extremely difficult to control the mouse with your current DPI, even if you’re a low DPI user. If you used your mouse with high DPI, then there’s no chance you can control your mouse with these skates on.
So Smooth They’re Hard To Stop
The mouse also doesn’t seem to stop because the friction has been reduced drastically. This means that pressing your mouse hard on the mousepad, which most peopleunintentionallydo, especially in tense gameplay, will also not stop the mouse once with these skates.
This is why it is essential to lower your mouse DPI significantly so you can have control over your aim. Still, you’ll find that you’re overaiming or your aim is moving a lot, but you’ll get used to it.

Effortless Glide & Best For Third Person Games
The advantage is that you can track your enemies effortlessly without straining your wrists or arm and if your pair it with a lightweight mouse then it’s even better and would feel as if there is no practical resistence.
But for the downside, you have to drag your pinky finger and your thumb, and they’ll bear all the load because the mouse won’t stop unless you physically stop it using your fingers and thumb.
The glass skates are ideal for third-person games, especially competitive ones where you need to look around or use your camera more often. If you’ve mastered how to stop the mouse whenever you need to, they would be best for Fortnite.

Things To Be Aware Of Before Switching
It is worth noting that the performance of these glass skates is prone to change due to external factors such as temperature, humidity, and wear and tear. Let’s dive deeper into them so you know what to expect before getting them.
Inconsistency Compared To Standard Glides
Firstly, the mouse will feel different on various spots of your mousepad because some parts are a bit cleaner, while the most often used spots are usually dirtier. Also, the sweat absorbed by the mouse pad reduces the mouse’s performance in some areas.
Therefore, you also have to upgrade to a dust and spill-resistant mouse pad like the the Corsair MM500 or the XPG Battleground XL Prime where your mouse stays consistent throughout the entire mouse pad with the glass skates on.

Pairing With Glass Mousepads Is A Big No
There’s also a common misconception that pairing a mouse with glass skates with a glass mousepad will give you the lowest friction and the highest advantage over other players, but that is far from the truth.
You see, glass on glass causes friction, and in return, either, if not both, of the surfaces gets scratches. The part with scratches is often inconsistent, and you won’t get a buttery smooth feel from even a standard mouse pad.
Additionally, glass on glass makes a lot of sound, which can be annoying, so it isn’t ideal to pair glass skates with glass mousepads at all. Conclusively, glass skates are good, but they do have a learning curve, and you’re better off without them if you already have great control over your aim.

Should You Upgrade?
If you’re looking to upgrade to glass skates, we recommend you first switch to aftermarket PTFE skates. These are better than the normal glides your mouse comes wit,h and it is better to gradually step up the ladder so it isn’t ‘too smooth’ for you.

With the same hardware, SteamOS performs better, consumes less power, and uses less battery than the Windows version.
The SteamOS version also has a snappy & user-friendly GUI that boots up instantly, takes time to load the launchers, and feels peaceful.
You can put it in sleep mode and resume from the same place even after days, unlike the Windows version, which sometimes operates even at idle.
While Windows handhelds were the go-to option because only the Steam Deck had SteamOS, official Steam Deck support is finally here from Valve, and the difference between these two operating systems is night and day.
Gaming Handhelds (Image Credits – PC Gamer)
While we believed that the future of gaming lies in handhelds, we would like to rephrase that slightly: We now believe that the future of gaming lies in SteamOS handhelds instead.
Why SteamOS Dominates Windows In Handhelds
To make this comparison equally, keeping every other hardware factor constant is best while only switching to the operating system. This is made possible thanks to Valve partnering with Lenovo to create the first third-party SteamOS handheld, Lenovo Legion Go S, which has all the same specs as the Windows version.
Same Specs Different OS
The only other thing that has changed is the color. The newer SteamOS version of the Legion Go S comes with a darker purple shade, which was likely intended to resemble Steam’s iconic dark theme.
Legion Go S Using SteamOS (Image Credits – NotebookCheck)
Boot Time Difference
Firstly, the user experience is far better in the SteamOS version compared to the Windows one. Right from booting the two devices, you can see how long and tedious the Windows one is.
You get pop-ups, notifications, and all the Microsoft bloat that becomes an obstacle. In comparison, the SteamOS version allows you to boot right to the gaming library without the 10-15-minute delay that the Windows version comes with.
Peaceful Gaming Experience
If you’re wondering, this delay on the Windows variant is because it has to load a launcher and then it has to load up or even update other game launchers, such as Steam or Epic Games. And then you can finally play your game.
Peaceful Gaming Experience On SteamOS (Image Credits – IGN)
Even when you’re gaming, you won’t be at peace on the Windows variant because there will be unexpected Windows updates, or you’ll be hogged with background tasks that drain all the memory, similar to what we experience on a PC. Even with the gaming modes tweaked to perfection, you still aren’t safe from these headaches.
Compare this with SteamOS, where you launch right to your game library, you play peacefully, the UI is clean and purposeful, and you can finally enjoy the games from the get-go.
Sleep Mode As It Should Be
And if you want to put it into sleep mode, it’ll sleep and once you’re done you can get back into the same place where you left, even in between gaming session, with just a press of a button even after days without losing much of battery life.
Doing this is not only impossible on the Windows version, but also quite a hassle. In the Windows variant, once you put the device to sleep, and you want to resume, the device will pretend it’s sleeping, but will be consuming battery life.
Not only that, but you’ll no longer be in the game and have to start all over again, which is understandable for laptops to save battery life, but it defeats the purpose when it comes to a handheld.
Less Battery Consumption
Speaking of battery life, you’ll be surprised to hear how the SteamOS also improves on this aspect as well. Since there aren’t background tasks that are putting strain on the memory, the SteamOS version lasts way longer, comparatively.
SteamOS Better Battery Life (Image Credits – YT/Dave2D)
The Windows version, on the other hand, would sometimes use the fans even when the device is idle. God knows what computing it does when no one is even touching the device.
Better Performance
As for the performance, the SteamOS version shines with flying colors. On average, it has achieved over 12.64% FPS gain over the Windows version when tested across five titles. Not only that, but it has also consumed less power throughout as well.
This is exactly how gaming handhelds should be: they should perform better in games, have better battery life, have lower power consumption, and have an overall quick, snappy UI.
This might also cause other reputable brands like Ayaneo and OneXPlayer to transition to SteamOS and offer even better gaming handhelds, and even cheaper ones, than the Lenovo Legion Go S.
So far, Windows handhelds have been disappointing, but Microsoft has delayed the Xbox handheld to focus on optimizing Windows 11 for handhelds, which seems like a positive sign. We might get better Windows handhelds after it.

The lead actress of Silent Hill f reveals that she became so immersed in the role, she felt her sanity ‘slipping away.’
This new entry will be the most disturbing in the series.
Konami has advised players to take a break or refer to their loved ones should they feel overwhelmed while playing the title.
These are exciting times to be a fan of the horror genre, especially with the revitalisation of the Silent Hill franchise. Konami’s next entry, Silent Hill f, is looking to be their most ambitious one and will bring a fresh new Japanese setting for the series.
While we’re already familiar with the severe, dark, and gritty tone of this new entry, lead actress Hinako Shimizu has discussed her take on the role and how it has affected her so far.
According to Kato Konatsu, she had been so lost in the world of Silent Hill f that she could sometimes feel her sanity ‘slipping away.’
Why it matters: A cast member being this affected by their role highlights just how distinct Silent Hill will be, especially with its sensitive themes and extremely gruesome content.
The official Silent Hill X account posted the actress’s message, which translates to:
I’ve been living as Hinako in the world of Silent Hill for a long time now. On some days, I almost felt my own sanity slipping, but it was worth it to be able to contribute to this game.
Silent Hill f is already facing some controversies due to its subject matter, which involves bullying, gender discrimination, and child abuse. Set in the rural area of 1960s Japan, the devs felt that it was necessary to portray these themes.
The Main Concept For The Game Is “Finding the Beauty In Terror,” Which Will Reflect Hanako’s Choices
Due to such themes, the game also faced rating issues in Australia and is the first title in the franchise to receive an 18+ rating in Japan. ESRB ratings suggest dismemberment, people burning alive, getting impaled, or entire faces getting ripped off.
Even Konami has advised players to take a break or speak with their loved ones if they feel overwhelmed while playing the game.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney suggests that the Fortnite model can help save declining single-player titles.
He believes that these games should join Epic Games’ vision for a larger gaming Metaverse.
The CEO states that audiences now prefer social experiences, so this approach would be best for the industry.
Gaming has become largely live-service-focused over the last few years, with the likes of Fortnite, Call of Duty, and more dominating the competition. Epic Games, the studio behind Fortnite, has kept this title relevant since its initial boom in 2017 through various collaborations and updates.
This popularity has even led to some seeing Fortnite as a threat to other games, including those belonging to single-player genres. However, Tim Sweeney believes that Fortnite’s success lies in Epic Games’ Metaverse vision, and single-player games should join this vision for similar success.
Why it matters: Although single-player games continue to do better than ever, the industry sentiment that these games are no longer as big remains a popular talking point among executives and fans.
Fortnite Has Set A New Standard For Live-Service Successes
Speaking at GDC, Tim Sweeney stated that Epic Games’ Metaverse vision could combat the dwindling sales of single-player titles.
He suggested that the rise of multiplayer titles like Fortnite and Roblox has programmed gamers to prefer social experiences over games that are more narrative-centric and focus on solo experiences.
According to Tim Sweeney, having standalone games connected to a social ecosystem would be beneficial to single-player titles and smaller multiplayer releases in multiple ways. He believes that a single online identity for gamers would encourage them to experiment and jump across different experiences more.
There’s no solution other than getting every standalone game more socially connected.
Epic Games Is One Of The Industry’s Leading Companies Right Now
Of course, one could argue that single-player games are doing better than ever since titles like Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, and more have sold millions of copies. This is why the Epic Games CEO’s statement is so interesting, considering he himself has supported critical single-player hits like Alan Wake 2.
At T4G, my task is to cover the latest news around the gaming globe ASAP and with the utmost precision. I adore all the games and respect all the devs behind the amazing games that we get all year. So, whether it’s a PC or a Console game, I got it all covered.

Fans call the Xbox Games Showcase the best event during the Summer Game Fest.
It featured some massive reveals and premieres, including Black Ops 7 and A Plague Tale, among others.
The rest of the events had a few massive reveals, but mainly were quite dull.
Xbox Games Showcase has become one of the best gaming events of the year. After last year’s action-packed event with wonderful announcements and world premieres, the latest event was also filled with great reveals.
Fans have been very vocal about it, stating that the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 was the best event during the Summer Game Fest.
Why it matters: While others did bring important announcements like Resident Evil 9, they were mostly boring, unlike Xbox’s event, which was highly entertaining for the most part.
Fans voted that the Xbox Games Showcase was the best event of all recent showcases.
In Geoff Keighley’s poll on X, around 70% of the fans voted that the event was at least an A or B. The general consensus in the comments is also quite positive, with fans calling the event better than Keighley’s main event at the SGF.
The Xbox Games Showcase was undoubtedly a solid show, featuring some massive reveals. Announcements like a new A Plague Tale, Xbox handheld, Indiana Jones DLC, Final Fantasy 16 to Xbox, Black Ops 7, were the highlights of the show.
The event had some big reveals like Black Ops 7, Indiana Jones DLC, and more.
While fans say that this year’s showcase was solid, they still argue that Xbox set the bar too high last year, making it difficult for them to match it themselves. For context, last year had world premieres of Gears E-Day, Doom, and more.
Nonetheless, Xbox’s role as a publisher is solid, considering its titles have been doing well on all platforms, despite the console sales not matching the numbers. Now, fans can look forward to a bunch of new releases as well.

Splitgate 2 had a controversial marketing rollout, targeting a generic audience similar to Call of Duty.
One of the devs responded to a Call of Duty dev on social media, saying that they can’t tell each entry apart.
Their remarks have ricocheted back to them as fans express their disappointment with the FPS for being too ‘generic’ and plagued with microtransactions.
Among all the reveals at the recent Summer Game Fest, Splitgate 2 was the most memorable, not necessarily because it was the biggest title, but rather because of the unique introduction the developer gave while presenting the game.
From what started as another person demanding Titanfall 3, the Splitgate 2 developer criticized Call of Duty for releasing the same game every year. The criticism soon ricocheted back at him for a poor release plagued by microtransactions.
Why it matters: The gaming industry is in a poor state with unfinished releases, and microtransactions are a problem that has only worsened ever since their introduction. The ruin of a video game and its reputation if it is not implemented correctly.
Fans’ Reaction To Splitgate 2 Reveal On Social Media
The marketing rollout for this game has only worsened after one of the Call of Duty devs made a sarcastic response to the criticism by Splitgate 2 devs. In a now-deleted response, Splitgate 2’s official account said:
Which Call of Duty does your team make again? I can’t tell them apart.
While the team is too busy critiquing other FPS franchises, fans don’t find anything unique or interesting in Splitgate 2 itself. Most are calling it an Apex Legends rip-off due to some similar mechanics.
Moreover, fans are complaining that another game is still hesitant to compete in the Battle Royale space, which Call of Duty, Fortnite, and Apex Legends have dominated.
Additionally, the game is plagued by microtransactions with bundles costing around $70. Some of the skins are terrible, with one $34 portal skin that just changes the color to white.
Fans Flaming Splitgate 2 For Being Hypocritical On Social Media
Overall, fans are claiming Splitgate 2 to be quite ‘generic’. The game currently has a mixed reception on Steam, based on over 11,000 reviews.

The Switch 2 is finally out and reportedly witnessed the biggest console launch in history, with 3 million units being sold in the first 24 hours. Nintendo has introduced several changes to the handheld this time around, with the major one being its improved hardware, now capable of handling AAA games.
As part of the earlier Xbox games headed to the Switch 2, Call of Duty will be a major one from the catalog. According to a new report, Black Ops 7 is headed to the Switch 2.
Why it matters: Call of Duty is undoubtedly the biggest FPS franchise ever. The game’s availability on the Switch 2 will significantly increase its player base.

This claim comes from a senior Kotaku reporter who recently posted on social media that Microsoft and Nintendo are working together to get Call of Duty on the Switch 2.
Black Ops 7 is also launching for last-gen 10-year-old Xbox One and PS4 consoles. As such, Switch 2 won’t be facing a problem handling the title. Moreover, the handheld has already proven its capabilities in handling major AAA releases, including Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, and others.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has just been official announced at the recent Xbox event.
The game will be releasing on Xbox Series S|X, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, 5, and PC.
Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are over a decade-old and yet a next-gen game is being released on them.
PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are both over a decade-old consoles, and their era has been over for a while now. Although these consoles are relatively old, the latest Call of Duty game was released on them, primarily due to the massive size of the PS4’s player base.
It seems like the developers still don’t want to let go of the sales that come from the PS4 and Xbox One, as the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the sequel to Black Ops 2, will be released on these consoles.
Why it matters: Xbox One and PS4 are both nearly 12 years old, which is why it is pretty crazy for the developers to release next-gen games on these platforms.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Has Just Been Officially Announced At Xbox Games Showcase
In the Call of Duty blog, the developer has announced that the game will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. The game will also be available on the Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is scheduled for release on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation® 5, PlayStation® 4, and on PC via Xbox PC, Battle.net and Steam. Also, play on day one on Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.
This may be the last time a new Call of Duty game is released for the old generation, as a reliable insider has stated that it will be the last one. He said: “yeah lmao last game to be on it though from what I know”.
The fandom finds this very funny, as the latest game in the series doesn’t run that well on the last-gen consoles. So, the upcoming game would surely be even more difficult to run on the older hardware.
What do you think about the developer’s decision to still consider PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as the platforms for the upcoming Call of Duty? Do you find it funny? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion.

The Xbox Games Showcase, which recently took place, was epic but didn’t feature the upcoming Halo.
While the game didn’t appear directly, Phil Spencer did tease that it will be released next year.
Spencer said a classic that has been with us since the beginning will return next year.
Fans were expecting the title to appear during the Xbox Games Showcase, but it didn’t. However, Phil Spencer did tease that the game will be released in 2026.
Why it matters: Halo is one of Xbox’s oldest and most iconic franchises that the fandom truly adores. So, the success of a remake is already guaranteed.
Microsoft owns some of the most influential and profitable gaming franchises in the world.
The overall showcase was pretty great, but Phil Spencer wanted to spoil its fandom even more. So, he closed the show by saying that next year, a new Fable, Forza, Gears of War, and an old classic would be released.
In 2026, Xbox players will celebrate a quarter-century of Xbox with a new Fable, the next Forza, Gears of War E-Day, and, “The return of a classic that’s been with us since the beginning.
-Phil Spencer
Here, Spencer is most probably talking about Halo as “the return of a classic that’s been with us since the beginning”. This would make total sense, and the fandom agrees.
Fans are speculating that Phil Spencer is talking about Halo here since the original Halo title launched alongside the very first Xbox on November 15, 2001. Therefore, the probability of this classic returning is very high.

Xbox has officially announced its first $80 game during the recent showcase.
Outer Worlds 2 is the first game by Xbox that would cost more than $70.
The fandom is pretty angry over this, but it will release day one on Game Pass.
Nintendo started the trend of $80 games, which angered the fandom. The gaming giant said that the games for Switch 2 would cost $80, and Xbox followed suit. Shortly after Nintendo’s announcement, Microsoft stated that its upcoming first-party games would also cost $80, further angering the fandom.
Some people said that only games like Call of Duty would cost this much, so the fans shouldn’t worry. However, it has been officially revealed that Outer Worlds 2 is Xbox’s first $80 game.
Why it matters: The $70 price tag on video games was already so controversial, but now the $80 price tag is becoming the norm, which is likely to attract a lot of controversy.
Outer Worlds 2 Becomes the First Xbox Game to Cost $80 on Steam.
As you can see in the image above, the game’s standard version costs $80 while the premium edition is $100. While this is straight up outrageous, there is some good news for the fandom. The game is expensive on Steam, the fans’ preferred platform, but it will be released on Game Pass day one.
So, if you liked the first entry in the franchise and want to give the second a try but don’t want to spend $80 on a game, then playing it via the Game Pass is the best possible option.
The fandom is pretty pissed off by this move and thinks that the gaming giant is pulling it off just to get more Game Pass subscribers, which won’t be a reach given the upper echelons at Microsoft want to make Xbox a subscription-based platform.
This is unreal, we’re being charged even more money for unfinished games.
Damn they really want people to buy game pass haha.
This trend will, unfortunately, now continue as more and more games will cost this much money. What do you think about the sequel to The Outer Worlds costing this much money? Do you think it is fair for Xbox to charge this amount? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion.
