Perfect Dark Actor Asks Fans To Help Revive The Game

Story Highlight
  • Perfect Dark lead actor has requested the fans to help her revive the title.
  • The game was canceled and the studio was shut down amid Xbox layoffs.
  • The title was first revealed in 2020, and gameplay was revealed last year.

Perfect Dark was one of the victims of the recent Xbox fiasco. Not only has the title been canceled midway through development, but the studio working on it, The Initiative, has also been shuttered as part of a restructuring.

However, the lead actor of the game has asked the fans to rally around her and help revive Perfect Dark despite the cancellation. While it might not change anything, she says that it is worth a try.

Why it matters: Despite the controversy surrounding the Perfect Dark showcase at the Xbox event, fans were looking forward to the reboot, and many of them later voiced their frustration when it was canceled.

Perfect Dark calls fans to help revive the game

Alix Wilton Regan, who was set to play Joanna Dark in Perfect Dark, took to X to request fans to help her revive the game. She said her DMs have been flooded with people asking her about the project, and she wants them to speak up.

Perfect Dark was first announced back at The Game Awards 2020; however, its first comprehensive gameplay was revealed last year. Although it has since been under fire because it claimed that it was fake.

However, the lead designer says most of the things were as shown, and it was from an early build of the game. So, considering how the game still seems to be in a not-so-late development stage, the revival seems unlikely.

Hideo Kojima Teases Retirement From Games After Next Two Projects

Story Highlight
  • Hideo Kojima has shared plans to work on a movie after his next two games.
  • The director is currently busy with OD and Physint, which will take at least five more years.
  • Because of his age and development timelines, the two projects could be his last in the industry.

Hideo Kojima is often credited for many of the current innovations in the gaming industry. His contributions to the stealth-action genre stand out to this day, and the director’s latest project has been yet another hit.

Death Stranding 2 has received incredible reviews and is quickly shaping up to be yet another fantastic addition to his resume. Amid this success, Hideo Kojima has teased his potential departure from gaming.

Why it matters: Hideo Kojima has developed a reputation for doing things differently and breaking away from the norm. This makes him an essential part of an industry that otherwise likes to play it too safe.

During a recent interview, the developer discussed the next step in his gaming journey.

The director already has two major projects announced, OD and Physint. OD is being developed in partnership with Xbox and has survived the recent cancellations, while Physint marks yet another collaboration between Kojima Productions and PlayStation.

Hideo Kojima states that he plans to make a movie after these two games are out, and given the time required to make modern AAA projects, these games may end up being his last contributions to the industry.

Right now I’m working on OD and Physint, and after that I’ll look at the studio, and if I can make a movie, I’d like to make one.

For context, the iconic game developer is already 61 years old. Both Physint and OD will likely require at least five years to produce, so Hideo Kojima will be close to his 70s by the time he joins the film industry as planned.

Nothing is set in stone yet, but if Hideo Kojima’s plans come to fruition, the upcoming projects may end up being his final works in the gaming industry.

Death Stranding 2
Death Stranding 2 Just Came Out Last Month

Nonetheless, the first two Death Stranding games have laid a solid foundation for Kojima Productions. The experience gained from these two titles should ensure the studio continues to deliver exciting titles, even without the legendary developer’s direct involvement.

What are your thoughts on the director’s plans? Do you think he would make a great movie director? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Finally, the developers have recently confirmed that Helldivers 2 will be released on Xbox Series S|X later this August. While many fans were wondering whether the title would be available on Xbox Game Pass, Arrowhead’s community manager has confirmed it won’t be.

Why it matters: Of course, Arrowhead Games would want players to fully purchase the game if they want to enjoy it since the game has already seen tremendous success and is worth the money.

Since many third-party games are often released on Xbox Game Pass, fans were eagerly awaiting the arrival of Helldivers 2 on the subscription service.

Definitely not. No plans to bring it to gamepass

-Baskinator, Arrowhead

RTX 5070 Dominates Amazon Best-Selling GPU List; Nvidia Boasts 70% Market Share

Story Highlight
  • Nvidia is dominating the competition on Amazon, accounting for over 70% of all graphics card sales last month.
  • The RTX 5070 took the top position on the list, while AMD’s RX 9070 XT finished in fourth place.
  • Intel GPUs accounted for less than 2% of all sales on the list.

Nvidia’s recent graphics card generations have seen their fair share of criticism, but consumers continue to flock toward these GPUs.

The GeForce RTX 4060 has recently become Steam’s most popular graphics card, and new reports indicate that the Blackwell gaming lineup is on track to continue this dominance. According to data from Amazon, Nvidia controls over 70% of sales on the platform.

Why it matters: Nvidia has had a tight grip over the PC gaming market for multiple generations at this point. Even when producing mediocre graphics cards, the gaming giant continues to find success in the market.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang
Nvidia Has Been Leading The PC Gaming Market For Decades

According to TechEphiphany, over 31,000 Nvidia graphics cards were sold on Amazon in the US last month.

In comparison, AMD sold around 12,000 units, while Intel trailed behind with fewer than 1,000 sales. This means that Intel contributed to less than 2% of the total GPU sales on Amazon in June.

The top three spots were taken up by the RTX 5070, RTX 5060 Ti, and RTX 5070 Ti, respectively. AMD’s well-received RX 9070 XT finished in fourth place, showcasing Nvidia’s current dominance despite the criticisms over the Blackwell lineup’s release.

Older GPUs, such as the GT 1030 and RX 580, also sold around 1,000 units last month. Even more interesting is the fact that both of these old Nvidia and AMD graphics cards outsold Intel’s recent ARC offerings.

This data identifies the current gap between Nvidia, AMD, and Intel in the market. While this particular set of data is limited to units sold on Amazon, a similar trend is observed when looking at the best-sellers across other platforms, such as Newegg.

Ultimately, AMD has a lot of ground to cover before it can match Team Green’s market position, even with the RDNA 4 lineup showing considerable potential. The same could be said of Intel, but its position is not too surprising considering the competition’s experience with gaming graphics cards.

Former Rockstar Dev Says GTA 7 Will Cost Less To Make Than GTA 6 Due To AI

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 is said to be gaming’s most expensive project to date.
  • A former Rockstar developer believes that things will remain that way, with future games being cheaper.
  • He says that GTA 7 will likely be cheaper to produce than GTA 6 due to the use of artificial intelligence.

GTA 6 has been in development for over five years, and the game is rapidly approaching its 2026 release date. Ahead of this launch, the game is estimated to have cost as much as $1 billion.

This budget figure, although not officially confirmed, would make GTA 6 gaming’s most expensive production ever. Fortunately, a former Rockstar developer believes that future GTA titles will be cheaper to produce.

Why it matters: High development costs remain one of gaming’s most significant challenges at the moment, so many studios are exploring potential ways to reduce AAA budgets.

Speaking during a new episode of Kiwi Talks, Obbe Vermeij discussed the cost of GTA 6 and the implications of AI for development.

He believes that GTA 6 will remain gaming’s most expensive production ever since it was created without the use of artificial intelligence. The former Rockstar developer believes AI tools will significantly aid development of future titles, such as GTA 7.

In particular, he pointed to the work of artists and animators being handled by AI tools, significantly bringing down production costs. As an example, Obbe Vermeij described a cutscene where artificial intelligence would handle character rendering and conversation, with artists adding the finishing touches for maximum efficiency.

He also noted that we would have to wait around 15 years to see this come to fruition, since games take so long to develop these days.

GTA 7 will be cheaper to make than GTA 6. I think so. We’ll have to wait 15 years.

GTA 6 Trailer 2
AI Could Change Gaming Forever

Because tools like Nvidia’s AI NPCs showcase how game development could change over the next few years, the former Rockstar developer’s prediction certainly sounds interesting.

Rockstar Games, more than other teams, is known for its hand-crafted and detailed approach to development. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how much artificial intelligence affects its strategies moving forward.

What do you think about the developer’s thoughts on the subject? Do you believe GTA 7 will be cheaper to make than GTA 6? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Xbox And Hideo Kojima Still Working On OD Amid Recent Cancellations

Story Highlight
  • Xbox recently cancelled multiple first and third-party titles.
  • Hideo Kojima’s OD is reportedly not among the cancelled games.
  • The title is still many years away and is aiming to do something ground-breaking in the industry.

Xbox’s latest layoffs have been accompanied by a wave of cancellations. These cancellations range from first-party titles, such as Perfect Dark, to third-party collaborations with studios like Romero Games.

One particular rumor also stated that Hideo Kojima’s OD had been cancelled in a similar manner. However, a new report confirms that the game is safe.

Why it matters: Xbox’s partnership with Hideo Kojima was a major deal due to the developer’s status and legacy in the industry. Therefore, fans were hoping that this collaboration would survive the layoffs.

This report comes from reliable insider Jez Corden, who states that Hideo Kojima’s partnership with Xbox remains unimpacted by the layoffs. Although the game is still very early in development, Microsoft has decided to move forward with work on the project.

The report also addresses Contraband, a project that has yet to receive a firm update. Jez Corden has been unable to verify the fate of this game, but the recently pulled YouTube trailer suggests it has been cancelled.

Anyhow, Hideo Kojima’s OD continues to be among the many third-party Xbox projects that have survived the layoffs. Not much about this game is known, but the director previously teased that it would create a whole new genre of games.

The project also utilizes Xbox’s cloud technology, which, according to Hideo Kojima, makes it possible for the team to bring such an ambitious game to life.

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer
Xbox Still Has 40 Projects In The Works

Given Xbox’s history with unreleased games and projects, it will be interesting to see how OD turns out.

The gaming giant announced titles like Perfect Dark and Everwild five years ago, but had little to show for these reveals earlier this year. As such, fans can only hope that OD does not meet a similar fate.

What are your thoughts on this report? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Fans Are Cancelling Game Pass To Boycott Xbox Amid Recent Disaster

Story Highlight
  • Xbox is under fire for recently cutting 9,000 jobs, resulting in the cancellation of some highly anticipated games.
  • Fans are now boycotting the company by cancelling their Game Pass subscription.
  • The fandom is even moving on from Windows to Linux, as they don’t want anything to do with companies like Microsoft.

Xbox has been on a spree of laying off its employees recently. The gaming giant first laid off 4,000 employees a few weeks ago and has since cut an additional 9,000 jobs, affecting many ongoing projects.

Some highly anticipated titles like Perfect Dark have been cancelled, which was a massive blow to the fandom. Many studios were affected, which would ultimately hinder the game development process. Due to this harsh act by Xbox, fans have decided to boycott the company by cancelling their Game Pass subscription

Why it matters: Day by day, Xbox is becoming more of a subscription-based company, which is precisely what the upper echelon wants it to be. Therefore, fans boycotting this service would cause significant harm.

Satya Nadella Microsoft CEO
Hate For Microsoft Has Been Increasing Rapidly Due To Back-To-Back Controversies

On Resetera, one of the most renowned gaming forums, the latest news is shared, and fans share their opinions on various industry developments. One particular thread in the forum advises cancelling the Game Pass membership

Well said. Been banging this from for a while. Also stop using Windows products if you can. There are several nice threads here on setting up Linux.

My sub is ending on 30th Octorber and I don’t have intention of resubbing, shame I’ll lost access to my GWG games, but that’s life.

-Fans

The fandom is actually concerned about what the company is doing and is serious about boycotting this time. While, of course, not everyone would go out of their way to cancel their subscription, many are willing to do that, and it shows.

Microsoft’s decision to lay off 9,000 people is absolutely horrendous and shows that the industry is in peril. However, despite such things happening, there are gems like CDPR, which have offered jobs to those who have been laid off to work on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2077

It is also being reported that Xbox did the massive layoffs mainly because it wants to invest more in AI, which angers the fandom even more. That said, over 40 titles are still in development at Xbox, but a reliable insider has revealed that more layoffs are expected soon, so those games may also be affected.

Mindseye CEO Blames Saboteurs For The Games Failure, Says It Will Be Relaunched

Story Highlight
  • The CEO of the Mindseye developer has blamed saboteurs for the game’s failure.
  • He yet again fails to admit that the launch was a disaster and continues to blame others.
  • However, he has revealed that the game will be relaunched, but hasn’t given an estimate for when.

Mindseye, a game that was literally being hailed as the GTA killer, was released earlier this month and flopped. The game was so poorly received that it only attracted 3.3k concurrent players on Steam, with most reviews being negative.

The game also received negative reviews from critics and continued to receive negative remarks from gamers worldwide. It was clearly not in a state of being launched, as even PlayStation offered refunds to those who had bought it.

Now, the CEO yet again fails to admit that the game was in poor condition and blames the saboteurs for its failure. He also said that the title will be relaunched

Why it matters: Cyberpunk 2077 was a mess on launch, but it had a lot of hype. Many people bought the game, which is why it managed to make a comeback, whereas Mindseye’s re-release may be as successful.

MindsEye
Over 60% Reviews of the “GTA Killer” Are Negative on Steam

In a recent statement by IGN, it has been revealed that the former Rockstar North president, now the CEO of the studio behind the release of Mindseye, blamed saboteurs for the failure and stated that the title will be relaunched.

BARB sources told IGN that Benzies finally addressed staff following the release of MindsEye in a brief video call yesterday, July 2. Benzies insisted BARB would bounce back and relaunch MindsEye, blaming the studio and the game’s struggles on internal and external saboteurs, among other things.

The Co-CEO also seemed to still be in denial, as he had previously stated that people were paid to review the game negatively. The game was arguably launched in a deplorable state, and its lead performer agrees. He said that games should never be launched in such an unfinished state

Recently, a new report has also revealed that the Co-CEO said that the game’s team is lazy and incompetent, and that 100 employees may be laid off soon. That said, the developer is now aiming for a relaunch, meaning Mindseye is likely to be marketed again and have a massive overhaul.

What do you think about the CEO’s new statement? Do you think the game can bounce back after an insanely negative feedback? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion

Story Highlight
  • Helldivers 2 remains PlayStation’s biggest live-service success one year later.
  • The game is now heading to Xbox Series S|X in August.
  • Nixxes has confirmed its involvement in the port, and the game will support cross-play between all platforms.

Helldivers 2 was one of PlayStation’s biggest games last year and continues to be the pinnacle of live-service development for the gaming giant. In fact, interest in the title was so high last year that many fans began rallying for an Xbox port.

Over a year later, their wishes have been granted. Arrowhead has officially confirmed an Xbox Series S|X release for Helldivers 2.

Why it matters: Helldivers 2 was published by PlayStation, and Sony owns the IP. Therefore, this exclusive series heading to Xbox is a major deal.

According to director Mikael Eriksson, Helldivers 2 is heading to Xbox Series S|X to fulfill a longtime fan request. The game officially releases on these consoles in August, and even more is planned for players across all platforms.

Helldivers 2 is now available to pre-order in two different editions on these consoles. The game originally released on February 8, 2024, and will officially make its Xbox Series S|X debut on August 26.

Cross-play will also be supported with this release, enabling Xbox and PlayStation gamers to team up in the fight for Super Earth following the game’s recent resurgence.

Helldivers 2
Fans Have Been Waiting For This Announcement For Quite A While

Perhaps the most interesting part of this announcement is the fact that this game was published by PlayStation. The Xbox Series S|X port has also been developed by Nixxes, the team famous for PlayStation’s PC releases.

Although this release is a one-off for now, it could lead to a trend of third-party ports from Nixxes, positioning PlayStation as a major player on Xbox platforms.

Bethesda Has Canceled Funding For Unannounced Games Amid Xbox Layoffs

Story Highlight
  • Post Xbox layoffs, Bethesda has pulled funding from various unannounced projects.
  • The team at Romero Games is heartbroken by this, as they are proud of their work.
  • This comes after Xbox also canceled first-party games like Perfect Dark and more.

Following the cancellation of Perfect Dark, Everwild, and more, it seems Microsoft has shelved certain projects as well. While they claim there are still around 40 games in development, certain unannounced projects also seem to be affected.

A new report reveals that Bethesda has pulled the funding on several unannounced games as well. These were smaller studios working on different titles, so this would be a nightmare situation for them.

Why it matters: In a move to restructure and grow further, Xbox has made several layoffs, cancellations, and has even stopped funding games from other smaller studios.

Bethesda has canceled funding for many unannounced projects

Romero Games Ltd took to X to announce that their publisher, Bethesda, has canceled funding for their title and several other unannounced games at other studios, as a strategic move to manage budgets.

They stated that this doesn’t reflect the work they put into their title, as they worked so hard for it, and this move has put them in a tight spot. They’ve also requested that if anyone can help them, they’ll be glad to accept it.

Perfect Dark
Perfect Dark was also canceled as part of the restructuring at Xbox

Now, there is no telling if anyone else will fund the remaining development, but considering the hard work it takes, this is a very sad situation. Nonetheless, we hope all affected studios find their footing again and complete their projects.

CDPR Responds to Xbox Layoffs with Sympathy, Offers Roles on Witcher 4 And Cyberpunk 2

Story Highlight
  • CDPR has offered sympathies and potential developmental roles for the people who got laid off by Xbox.
  • CDPR is showing steady growth, whereas the whole industry is going downhill.
  • They’re working on several projects at the moment, with Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 in need of more developers.

The gaming industry is in a dire state these days, with frequent layoffs occurring regularly. Xbox was the latest victim of the downsizing practices, which resulted in enormous losses for its internal studios.

As a result, many of the industry’s most incredible talents are now without work. CDPR extended their sympathies to the affected victims from the recent rounds of layoffs and have offered them roles for the development of their upcoming Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2.

Why it matters: It’s great to see developers supporting each other. CDPR’s offering of roles to the victims will probably bring even greater talent to their studio.

CDPR Responds To The Latest Wave Of Layoffs On X

Pawel Sasko, the Associate Game Director for the upcoming Cyberpunk 2, recently tweeted and shared a link to the job openings CDPR is recruiting for across the US, Canada, and Poland.

While CDPR may not be able to provide jobs to all the victims, it’s still a start and a commendable effort. In an era where everyone in the industry is vulnerable to layoffs, CDPR continues to grow and has been actively recruiting for some time now.

Xbox To Be Hit With More Layoffs Soon, Warns Insider

Not just CDPR, but Polish game studios are thriving in general. Bloober Team, Techland, and CI Games are notable examples. Poland also became the world’s 4th largest game exporter in 2022.

Currently, Witcher 4 is quite deep into development with a huge number of employees working on it, while Cyberpunk 2 has only just left pre-production. The studio has also recently absorbed Sirius Studio and is now responsible for the development of the spin-off Witcher title.
