DDR5 RAM Prices Drop Sharply Across US, Europe, and China

Story Highlight
  • Wholesalers in Shenzhen are dumping DDR5 stock at losses to regain cash, leading to price cuts of up to 30% in just a few days.
  • High-capacity 32GB modules have seen massive price tags slashed by more than half in some instances
  • Retail interest has stalled after months of high prices, forcing merchants to prioritize moving inventory over maintaining profit levels.

China’s DDR5 memory market has reacted to a sudden wave of aggressive sell-offs at any price. What initially appeared to be a one-day correction has escalated into aggressive selling in Shenzhen, where module prices have fallen by as much as 30% within days. This was not a progressive price reduction but rather a direct liquidation, with wholesalers clearing inventory to recover cash.

The focus is on Huaqiangbei, where a major portion of the country’s actual component commerce is based, and that’s where the hit was felt. Hopefully, we’ll see something similar here as well.

V Color DDR5 11

The best example of this is, once again, the 32GB DDR5 modules, which used to cost over 3,000 RMB (375 euros) but have since dropped to between 500 and 1,050 RMB, with prices reaching 1,950 RMB (245 euros). This change is too significant to ignore, yet too localized to apply without context.

The important issue here is not the price drop itself, but the fact that it is occurring at a time when the world is under immense strain. Even merchants are discussing weak short-term demand and the need to increase inventory turnover.

The retail channel has lost traction after months of inflated prices, and when demand slows, the Chinese market answers as it always does, with sharp price decreases and no room to maintain artificially high prices. Nobody wants to lose money, and there are no buyers. Consumers are saving money, and rightfully so.

DDR5 in China collapses due to aggresive selloffs

This does not imply that DDR5 has suddenly lost value, but rather, the accumulated stock in the distribution channel is beginning to become excess in China, and when there is excess stock, sales occur everywhere.

Another important issue is that the Shenzhen ecosystem operates differently from big manufacturers’ contract markets, with fast liquidity, speculation, and constant turnover. That’s why the movements are so violent and difficult to imitate outside of China; that’s why we don’t see them in Europe, Korea, Japan, or the United States.

However, other industry insiders believe that this adjustment does not alter the underlying trend, as memory remains a vital resource in data centers and artificial intelligence, and production is more centered on that sector. This weakens the consumer market, particularly when purchase rates do not keep pace.

Outside of China, price declines are occurring, but they are much weaker and do not follow the liquidation pattern. This leaves Shenzhen as both a leading indicator and an extreme environment that exaggerates market moves.

Similarly, sales are already declining by double digits in European stores. Nobody wants to overpay, and if this becomes the new normal, many will leave the market for a long time.

What we’re seeing isn’t the end of the cycle, but it’s just an internal adjustment in the Chinese market. However, it shows that there is a lot of speculation both inside and beyond the country. Now the question is whether this will remain in China or spread to the rest of the market in the coming weeks, because when China starts selling cheap DDR5 at this scale, it doesn’t stay a local problem; it becomes a global pricing event.

Crimson Desert Hits 4 Million Sales, Shows No Signs of Slowing Down

Story Highlight
  • Crimson Desert has now sold 4 million copies around the globe.
  • The developer’s attention to player feedback is a big reason for this consistent success, further proved by the improving user scores.
  • Pearl Abyss also thanked fans for their incredible support of the open-world title.

After an imperfect launch that was filled with player criticism and mixed reviews, Crimson Desert has come back in a major way. The open-world title is now the second-highest rated game of 2026 so far, with its Steam reviews turning “very positive” after falling below Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

The game has also turned out to be a commercial juggernaut, selling over 2 million copies in less than one day and hitting a new concurrent player peak on Steam two weeks after launching. Now, Crimson Desert has reached another sales milestone, further showcasing its continued success.

Why it matters: A game like Crimson Desert finding this kind of success in an industry filled with a lack of creativity is a testament to the developer’s ambition.

Crimson Desert 4 million
Source: X

As announced by the game’s official account on X, Crimson Desert has now sold 4 million copies worldwide. The title has achieved this milestone in just two weeks, which is brilliant for a brand-new IP.

Developer Pearl Abyss’ immediate response to fan feedback is a big reason for the title’s upward sales trajectory. The studio has released one patch after another in quick succession to address critical player issues like the overpowered bosses. As a result of this fan service, the game’s user score has bounced back on all platforms, including Metacritic.

Furthermore, Pearl Abyss dealt with controversies like the AI-generated art in Crimson Desert with sincerity, removing every AI painting from the title and getting in the good graces of the players. In the post on X, the studio also thanked fans for their continued support and love.

With a Nintendo Switch 2 port of the game also in the R&D phase, the sales numbers for Crimson Desert will only increase in the future, even if critics aren’t big fans of the game.

Do you think Crimson Desert deserves this amount of success, or are the critics right about the open-world title?

  • The South Korean company will publish the studio’s new IP and all future projects in a bid to increase its global publishing prowess.
  • The announcement also revealed a first look at Mikami’s new game, giving fans a glimpse of what’s about to come.

The success of Stellar Blade has made developer Shift Up a formidable force in the gaming world. Due to the 6 million-plus sales of the title, the Korean studio has set new profit records, with its Director becoming one of the richest men in South Korea.

Shift Up has multiple titles in development, including a sequel to Stellar Blade and another RPG inspired by Expedition 33. Now, the company has made another big move, acquiring the studio made by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami.

Why it matters: Shift Up has been banking on the success of Stellar Blade by making all the right moves, and acquiring the talent of Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami is another one of them.

Shift Up has revealed that it has acquired Unbound, buying all shares of the new studio formed by Shinji Mikami after he left Tango Gameworks. The company stated that this partnership is an effort to increase its publishing capacity on both PC and consoles.

As revealed last year, Shinji Mikami’s Unbound is working on a new IP for consoles and PC, which will now be published by the developer of Stellar Blade.  Furthermore, Shift Up will provide resources for any future title created by the Resident Evil alum and also handle publishing directly.

The company’s CEO, Hyung-Tae Kim, stated that this partnership is very meaningful as it will help Shift Up deliver the best gaming experiences to players globally and solidify the publisher as a competitive force in the industry.

MindsEye Studio Head Warns That Those Who Tried to Sabotage The Game Will be Arrested

Story Highlight
  • Build A Rocket Boy studio head says MindsEye failed due to corporate sabotage.
  • They have identified those involved in it, and the authorities have been involved.
  • There will be arrests and consequences as the studio prepares to relaunch the game.

MindsEye was one of the biggest colossal failures in the gaming industry in recent years. It became the lowest-rated game of the year on Metacritic in 2025, and the studio head stated that it failed because people tried to sabotage it.

In a recent interview, MindsEye studio CEO warned that they are investigating the people who tried to sabotage the game, and they will be arrested. They are in talks with the authorities in the US and the UK, and there will be consequences.

Why it matters: The game initially promised a lot of potential as it was developed by ex-Rockstar developers, but as reviews came in and the game was eventually released, it was clear that it’s not what most thought it would be.

MindsEye was a huge failure, plagued with loads of issues

In an interview with GamesBeat, Build A Rocket Boy CEO Mark Gerhard went candid about MindsEye’s failure. He stated that the company has found evidence of corporate sabotage, and the authorities are now involved.

We’ve got very strong evidence of this (corporate sabotage) and conducted quite thorough investigations over the months since launch. We’ll leave it with the authorities to do what they do, make their arrests or any announcements in due course

MindsEye Free Demo Flop
Even a free demo couldn’t lift the game up

He was asked if there were reports that MindsEye became one of the most refunded games of all time, to which Gerhard remarked that it is a false narrative. It was just a negative or malicious narrative that was amplified.

Anyhow, he says the studio is now working hard to relaunch the game. After the end of the partnership with IO Interactive, the CEO says they are in good spirits, and the update is already getting really good reviews.

Customer Orders AMD Stock Cooler, Found a Ryzen 5 8400F Attached — A Surprise Bonus

Story Highlight
  • A Redditor found a free Ryzen 5 8400f alongside his purchase of a stock AMD cooler.
  • He hasn’t had a chance to test the CPU, but it seems legit from the photos.
  • The Ryzen 5 8400f is a decent CPU for 1080p gaming, and an equivalent is also featured in the upcoming Steam Machine.

In times like these, people are receiving bags of rocks or detergent packets with their PC component purchases, but this specific customer got lucky as he got a free CPU with just the purchase of a cooler.

As shared on the r/pcmasterrace subreddit, user Beneficial_Island809 shared that he ordered a stock AMD cooler online and received a free Ryzen 5 8400f CPU.

Best find of a lifetime.

Gaming Hardware Is Plateauing And That’s Actually Good

Story Highlights
  • Gaming hardware improvements are slowing down as performance has reached a ceiling.
  • Diminishing returns suggest that these days, upgrades do not drastically change the experience.
  • Players can now keep using their hardware longer without feeling the need to upgrade.
  • Developers now have more time to further optimize games, rather than focusing solely on raw power to fill performance gaps.

For many years, gaming hardware has been improving at a rapid pace. Each new hardware generation brought massive leaps in performance,e and players were forced to keep up with growing game demands. This trend, however, has begun to slow. Instead of massive performance gains, we are now seeing smaller, more incremental upgrades. While this may sound disappointing at first, it means that gaming hardware is reaching a level of maturity.

Diminishing Returns Are Common Now

A few years ago, upgrading hardware components led to a drastic improvement in system performance. However, lately, modern CPUs and GPUs are powerful enough to handle most games at high performance. Moving from one hardware generation to the next often results in modest improvements rather than a game-changing shift. Considering hiking hardware prices, not upgrading is good for many.

Moving from a mid-to-high-range GPU to the next generation might give you better frame rates and improved efficiency, but it does not change the scene entirely. Games run slightly smoother and look a little better, but the core experience remains largely the same. This is a classic case of diminishing returns. The higher the base performance level becomes, the harder it is to deliver a noticeable improvement.

Constant Upgrades Are Not Needed Anymore

In the past, just to keep up with modern game demands, players had to change their hardware, normally the CPU or GPU. At the same time, they had to deal with compatibility issues, which often required multiple components to be changed and a significant amount of money to be spent. These upgrades didn’t even last that long, as after a while, they had to do it all over again.

Games these days do not require constant hardware upgrades. This might be the biggest advantage of gaming hardware plateauing: gamers won’t need to change their entire setup every year or so. They can comfortably use their existing hardware for the next few years, as frankly, a jump to the next generation doesn’t change much. It’s only when jumping multiple generations that players see a meaningful change in performance.

amd cpus
Upgrading Your CPU One or Two Generations Doesn’t Do Much – Image Credits (Pinterest)

Games No Longer Demand Constant Updates

One of the biggest advantages of gaming hardware plateauing is that modern AAA games no longer require the latest hardware. Systems last significantly longer, and components remain relevant for extended periods. This is because gaming hardware has reached a performance ceiling, beyond which improvements are not perceptible to the average gamer.

This is very beneficial for gamers who cannot afford to constantly update their hardware. A mid-range GPU like the RTX 5060 Ti can easily handle modern games at medium settings, with the occasional high setting, without feeling outdated too quickly. This level of hardware stability makes farming more accessible and less financially demanding.

Developers Can Finally Optimize Better

When hardware evolves too quickly, developers often struggle just to keep up. Rapid changes lead to poor optimization by developers, as studios start relying on brute force rather than refining their games across a range of setups. Having hardware advances at a slower rate allows developers to understand better the platforms they are working with. This results in better-optimized games that run smoothly across a variety of hardware.

Developers Can Focus More on Optimization – Image Credits (Steam)

Innovation is Shifting

Just because performance gains are slowing down doesn’t mean that innovation has stopped. It is simply moving in a different direction now. Instead of focusing on raw power, companies like NVIDIA are now working on AI upscaling using DLSS, frame generation, and power efficiency. Technologies such as smart rendering are now allowing games to look better without needing extensive hardware.

Better Value For Gamers

Slower hardware progression also means better value. Gamers can comfortably invest in hardware and systems without fearing their obsolescence in the near future. Players can build a system and expect it to last the next few years without any major changes. This simply means that now gaming is becoming more sustainable as a hobby. Players are also being forced to make better decisions about hardware components, as they won’t need replacements for the next few years.

Final Thoughts

When hardware was improving at a rapid rate, developers were focusing primarily on graphics and performance benchmarks. With hardware plateauing, developers can now focus on what truly matters to many gamers: the story, game design, and creativity. Developers are now being encouraged to innovate in gameplay rather than solely on visual improvements. This could lead to more unique and memorable experiences in the foreseeable future.

Ubisoft Hit With Fresh Lawsuit Over The Crew Server Shutdown

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft has been sued by an association for shutting down the servers of The Crew in 2024, which rendered the game unplayable.
  • Legal action has been taken to question the authority of publishers over titles they can close down at their discretion.
  • Furthermore, Ubisoft was deceptive and infringed on fundamental consumer rights by not disclosing this expiry date before purchase.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that, over the last few years, Ubisoft has lost much of the goodwill it built with players thanks to its questionable decision-making. From promising continued layoffs to defending nepotism within the company, the French publisher has only itself to blame for new lows in stock price.

Recently, Ubisoft laid off over 100 people at the Tom Clancy Studio, effectively shutting down the legendary developer. Now, as it turns out, the company is being sued for closing the servers of a racing simulator.

Why it matters: Ubisoft’s anti-consumer practices have put them in a tough spot, and once again, the company has no one else to blame but itself.

Ubisoft sue
Source: Que Choisir

French consumer association Que Choisir is suing Ubisoft for shutting down the servers of The Crew, an online racing title that was taken offline by the company back in March 2024.

As per the press release, Ubisoft’s decision to close the game’s servers rendered The Crew unplayable and inaccessible to anyone who had bought the title. Furthermore, the publisher had not informed players of the expiration date before the purchase was made.

Hence, Que Choisir intends to get an important ruling from the Créteil Judicial Court regarding the ownership of video games by consumers independent of the publisher’s authority. The association believes Ubisoft violated fundamental consumer rights by revoking the ability to play the title without disclosing its expiry before purchase.

Ubisoft The Crew Shutdown
The Crew was taken offline without the publisher creating an offline mode.

Hence, the company’s tactics were deceptive, and Que Choisir wants to put an end to practices like these that disrupt the players’ right to access a game after purchasing it.

This lawsuit is supported by the Stop Killing Games movement and attempts to tackle the worrying trend of publishers having authority over video game ownership by requiring constant internet connectivity.

Arc Raiders Loses Steam Top 10 Spot as RDR2 Makes Best Sellers Comeback

Story Highlight
  • Arc Raiders has been one of the most successful live service games in recent years.
  • It has now finally slipped below the top 10 best-sellers list on Steam after months.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 has made a comeback thanks regained open-world popularity.

Arc Raiders has been one of the most successful live service titles in recent years. It wasn’t one for the limelight when it was first announced, but Embark did a brilliant job on the title, and it became one of the biggest hits despite competition.

The title occupied the top-selling spot on Steam for several months despite releases like Battlefield 6 and Black Ops 6. However, now almost 5 months after its release, it has finally slipped below the top 10 sellers on Steam.

Why it matters: Notably, the top 10 spot is now occupied by Red Dead Redemption 2, which jumps 11 spots up thanks to sales, and the popularity of fun open-worlds inspired by the amazing recent RPG, Crimson Desert.

Arc Raiders Sales
Arc Raiders has fallen below the top 10 sellers on Steam as RDR2 returns

Arc Raiders has had a brilliant run, and it will undoubtedly return in the top-sellers list; however, the player base is slightly falling. It was stable at around 250-300K for the longest time, but has now slipped to 150K.

Interestingly, Red Dead 2 has made a return, which is considered one of the finest open-world story games of all time. Crimson Desert still sticks to its top 2 spot as it continues to sell really well, with 3 million copies already sold.

The live service game has been a massive success for Embark

Anyhow, this doesn’t take away from the fact that Arc Raiders is still a brilliant title. There are some issues technical issues right now, but we can expect new updates to lift the player base back up in the future.

  • The game has had a difficult development cycle with multiple delays over the years.
  • Its previews have been very positive, pointing towards another Capcom hit.

Capcom has already had a very triumphant year, and we are just 3 months into 2026. The publisher released Resident Evil Requiem to great critical and commercial success. Monster Hunter Stories 3 has also been quite a big hit.

And now their next big game of the year, Pragmata, has gone gold ahead of its April 17 release. The title has had a confusing development cycle with multiple delays, and in 2023, it was even deemed as completely canceled.

Why it matters: From what we’ve seen so far, and the previews point towards another hit in the making at Capcom. It has been wishlisted over 2 million times, with the demo also earning the same number of downloads.

Nintendo Dominates UK Market As Switch 2 Sales Surge 154% In March

Story Highlight
  • Nintendo Switch 2 sales increased by 154% month-on-month in the UK this March.
  • The console accounted for more than 50% of the total hardware sales during the month, beating out PS5 with ease.
  • The sales of Pokémon Pokopia have played a huge role in this resurgence, as the title sold 2.2 million units in just four days.

Despite facing one hurdle after another in its launch year, the Nintendo Switch 2 has still managed to sell over 17 million units worldwide. The lack of first-party titles, however, did hurt the console’s sales during the holiday season, leading to Nintendo cutting production by 2 million units in the United States.

But, once again, Pokémon has come to the rescue of Nintendo, with Pokémon Pokopia managing to give the Switch 2 a much-needed boost and cementing itself as a system seller. As it turns out, thanks to the spin-off, the Switch 2 dominated the UK market, accounting for more than half of the hardware sales.

Why it matters: Nintendo Switch 2 just needed an exclusive title all along to give fans an incentive to buy the console, and Pokémon Pokopia has turned out to be that system seller.

Nintendo Switch 2

As reported by Christopher Dring on X, Nintendo Switch 2 sales in the UK jumped by a whopping 154% in March compared to February, mainly due to the release of Pokémon Pokopia.

The console accounted for more than 50% of all hardware sales in the UK during March, comfortably beating out the PS5, which has been behind the Switch 2 “for ages,” according to Dring. The analyst did point out that March being a longer month is partly responsible for this figure.

However, no one can deny the impact of Pokémon Pokopia as the title sold a whopping 2.2 million copies in just four days on the Nintendo Switch 2 despite being a spin-off game in the series and not a mainline entry.

Crystal Dynamics Developing Its Own The Lord of the Rings Game, Separate From Warhorse

Story Highlight
  • Crystal Dynamics is developing a Lord of the Rings game in addition to the Tomb Raider titles.
  • The game is being funded by the ADIO, which has poured $100 million into the project so far.
  • Reports also reveal that the game would compete with Hogwarts Legacy.

Crystal Dynamics is taking the lead on the next Tomb Raider IP with two new games in the works, one including a remake of the first and another mainline entry titled ‘Catalyst,’ which will be the series’s first open-world entry.

In addition to these two games, the studio is now working on another major franchise. The latest report reveals that Crystal Dynamics is working on a new Lord of the Rings game.

Why it matters: The Lord of the Rings has tons of potential in the gaming world, but unfortunately, recent attempts haven’t been particularly successful, aside from the Middle-earth games. Hopefully, things will be different under Crystal Dynamics.

Tomb Raider
Crystal Dynamics Has Been Suffering From Instability

Insider Gaming reports that Crystal Dynamics is developing the new Lord of the Rings game to compete with Hogwarts Legacy. The Abu Dhabi Investment Office has already invested $100 million into the game.

If the game is competing with Hogwarts Legacy, expect it to be a proper RPG on a similar scale, where you would be able to build characters and do similar activities but that’s just speculation from our end.

Eidos Montreal was also working on an MMO based on The Lord Of The Rings before it got scrapped

It’s also important to note that this is different from the other Lord of the Rings game that Warhorse Studio is working on. Knowing how lore-rich the IP is, it’s no surprise that multiple different games are under development.

As for the release, expect this project to take some time, as Crystal Dynamics is full throttle on the Tomb Raider games right now. Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis is releasing this year, while Tomb Raider Catalyst is aiming for a 2027 release.

Eidos Montreal Scrapped Deus Ex in 2024, Axed 7+ Year Project Costing Hundreds of Millions

Story Highlight
  • Recent layoffs at Eidos Montreal were due to the cancellation of the project ‘Wildlands’, an open-world game that had cost the studio hundreds of millions of dollars.
  • A Deus Ex game was also scrapped in 2024 due to Wildlands taking up most of the budget.
  • The game was supposed to release this year and was almost complete.

Yesterday, Eidos Montreal announced that it’s going to be cutting 124 jobs from the studio and that the studio head would also be departing after 13 years of service.

Now, it has been revealed that the reason for this layoff is that the studio cancelled two major projects: a Deus Ex game a couple of years ago and P11, a multi-million dollar project that had been in the works for several years.

Why it matters: Game cancellations lead to layoffs and, often, even studio shutdowns. Specifically for Eidos Montreal, it’s unfortunate to see their condition, as they were once regarded as one of the best developers in the industry.

The Lord of The Rings: Gollum
The Studio Was Also Working On A Lord Of The Rings MMO At Some Point

Insider Gaming was tipped off by a source at Eidos Montreal that revealed that the studio cancelled a Deus Ex game in 2024 due to ‘spiraling’ budgets for the project ‘Wildlands’, the title that was shelved just recently and caused yesterday’s layoffs.

Wildlands had been in development since 2019, and the situation was rough. The game switched engines 4 times and had a budget that “exploded well beyond 9 figures.” It was a third-person open-world title featuring a bunch of teenagers as the main characters who wielded magic.

Eidos Montreal Games
The Studio Is Now Hiring For A AAAA Game Built On Unreal Engine 5

The lead was named ‘River’, and he would have a large moose-esque companion called ‘Redheart’ to traverse through the open world.

The game was almost completed and was in its polishing phase, and was supposed to be released this year. Unfortunately, Embracer Group didn’t have faith in it any longer after throwing so much money at it.

Now, Eidos Montreal is going through a leadership change that will determine the studio’s future.

What are your thoughts on these game cancellations at Eidos Montreal? Let us know in the comments below, or at the official Tech4Gamers Forums.
