Samsung Has Once Again Increased DRAM Prices by 30% Despite The Recent Dip in Memory Prices

Story Highlight
  • There was a recent dip in DDR5 memory prices, and people expected things to get better.
  • However, Samsung Electronics has once again increased DRAM prices by 30% in Q2 2026.
  • This comes after the company initially hiked prices by 100% in the first quarter.

There was a recent sigh of relief when DDR5 prices finally dipped for the first time in a very long time. However, while that pointed towards things getting better, unfortunately, the prices could now surge further in Q2 2026.

Samsung Electronics, which is among the top 3 biggest DRAM manufacturers in the world, has once again increased DRAM prices by 30%, after initially increasing the prices by around 100% in the first quarter of the year.

Why it matters: This could pose a significant threat to the prices that have already been ridiculously high for the last few months, and could also lead other major manufacturers to sharply increase the prices as well.

Samsung has once again increased DRAM prices

According to a new report, Samsung Electronics has worked out a deal with its customers and has implemented another 30% price hike in Q2 2026, on top of the already increasing prices by 100% in the last quarter.

The 30% figure is an overall number that will affect everything from HBM to conventional DRAM for servers, general home PCs, and mobile phones. So, there is a huge possibility that memory prices could once again rise.

Memory prices could shoot up even further following this change

Sources close to the industry also informed that there are still many consumers who are looking for DRAM supply, so there are no signs of price stabilisation or decline, particularly given the AI-driven demand.

Nvidia New Neural Rendering Tech Cuts VRAM Usage By Up To 85%

Story Highlight
  • Nvidia’s neural rendering tech aims to compress textures, leading to less VRAM usage.
  • In the company’s demonstration, it was able to cut the VRAM utilization by 85%.
  • If implemented correctly, the tech could be revolutionary for GPUs with limited VRAM.

Nvidia has been a frontrunner in the technology department in recent years. Whether most people like it or not, over the years, it has introduced revolutionary tech features, the most prominent of which is its AI upscaling, DLSS.

Now, the company is preparing to launch DLSS 5, but more importantly, it has revealed details about its latest Neural Rendering technology, which, apart from other benefits, cuts VRAM usage by up to 85% in gaming.

Why it matters: Gaming has become highly demanding, with VRAM posing a significant optimization challenge. We’ve seen that even 8GB is no longer enough, based on some recent titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

Nvidia headlined the GTC 2026 with its neural rendering technology. It is called Neural Texture Compression, and what it essentially does is it kind of creates smaller neural engines, instead of one doing all the work.

The tech giants showcased this using a Tuscan Villa scene. Using the standard BCN-compression textures took about 6.5GB of VRAM, whereas using NTC textures took just 970MB, cutting the usage by 85%.

Additionally, it also uses Neural Materials, which, like NTC, compresses material behavior, so they don’t take as many channels as traditional materials. This could be revolutionary for GPUs with limited VRAM.

It isn’t clear if it’ll make its way over to older GPUs, but people who have 8GB GPUs like the RTX 5060 or the 5060 Ti 8GB will likely benefit from it. DLSS 5 has been controversial, but this is something many will appreciate.

State of Decay 3 to be Darker and More Serious, Ditches Goofy Elements of Previous Game

Story Highlight
  • Undead Labs head reveals that State of Decay is aiming for a darker but hopeful tone.
  • It ditches the silly undertones of the last game and offers a world that feels more coherent.
  • The studio has planned a long-term support strategy, with a roadmap of updates to come after launch.

State of Decay 3 has been in development for many years now. While a release window still remains unknown, new information suggests that all this waiting will be worth it for the anticipated fans.

Head of Undead Labs Philip Holt now confirms that State of Decay 3 is aiming to have a more serious and darker tone than the last entry. He acknowledges that SoD 2 had many ‘frivolous or silly’ elements that may have hampered immersion.

Why it matters: State of Decay 3 could turn out to be one of the best zombie games because the studio is designing the game around active player feedback.

In an interview with YouTuber Sunny Games, Philip says the studio is going for a ‘series but hopeful’ tone, where each zombie encounter might as well be your last. State of Decay 3 strongly emphasizes player choices, and they will have deeper consequences.

We have a target that we’re shooting for that we describe as serious but hopeful.

-Undead Labs Head, Philip Holt.

So, expect the world to feel more realistic and grittier than the previous two titles. The NPCs will feel more memorable, and zombie variants are being redesigned to be more threatening and challenging.

In State of Decay 3, we’re trying to deliver a world that feels, […] more coherent, a little bit more elevated, a little bit more serious; the threat is more real.

In fact, Undead Labs has been working with a secret council of fans for over a year to receive direct feedback and develop the game accordingly. So, the upcoming bouts of alpha playtests are not the team’s first rodeo with players.

The game’s difficulty will scale organically in the multiplayer mode, and Philip emphasizes that Undead Labs is not leaving solo players behind.

State of Decay 3
State of Decay 3 has to meet a lot of expectations to stand out in the zombie genre.

Lastly, State of Decay 3 blends what worked best from the first two games, and long-term support is already planned. We can expect a roadmap of updates to follow once it is released. SoD 3 boasts a team that is six times larger than the original game’s, after all.

Do you think State of Decay 3 will appeal to gamers looking for a serious experience? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

New Alien Game Not Impacted By Eidos Montreal Layoffs, Still In Development Claims Insider

Story Highlight
  • According to Tom Henderson, the upcoming Alien game from Eidos Montreal is still in development despite layoffs.
  • The insider revealed that the project is safe, and the Canadian studio also has other titles in production.
  • Expected to be released in 2028, the new Alien will be a survival horror game described as Shadow of the Tomb Raider with Xenomorphs.

If one thing has stayed consistent in the gaming industry this year, it’s studios laying off developers left, right, and center. Epic recently fired over 1,000 employees despite owning the world’s most popular game, while Sony closed down another first-party studio and cancelled another project.

Amidst all of this, Deus Ex and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy developer Eidos Montreal also fired 124 people after cancelling a project that was in the works for seven years. However, as it turns out, the studio’s other games are still in production, including the new Alien title.

Why it matters: It’s good to know that Embracer hasn’t shut down a talented developer like Eidos Montreal, and it is still working on new games.

While speaking on the Insider Gaming podcast, Tom Henderson stated that the Alien game from Eidos Montreal is still in development. The insider claimed that the layoffs at the Canadian studio were due to the cancellation of Wildlands, a project that had already cost over $100 million and was in development hell.

These layoffs are related to Wildlands, they are not related to any other project. As far as I am aware, the Alien Game is still in development.

In addition, Embracer Group has also greenlit other games at the studio alongside the Alien title, but Henderson isn’t aware of their nature. All-in-all, the upcoming horror game is still in the works and safe from the layoffs at Eidos Montreal.

First reported last year, this new Alien project is going to be like Shadow of the Tomb Raider with Xenomorphs. Furthermore, the survival horror title will feature puzzles, parkour elements, and stealth similar to the Resident Evil games.

The upcoming Alien title will feature puzzles and parkour.

Players will control the character Aubrey, who has to survive against Xenomorphs and spec-ops units aboard a dystopian space station. With Ripley 8 from the movies also predicted to appear, the upcoming Alien game is expected to be released in 2028.

Crimson Desert Is Still The Best-Selling Title On Steam Two Weeks After Launching

Story Highlight
  • Crimson Desert is the best-selling paid title on Steam with respect to revenue, even two weeks after its release.
  • Only the free-to-play game Counter-Strike 2 is ahead of Crimson Desert right now.
  • The consistent post-launch support provided by Pearl Abyss is a big reason for this success, improving the title’s score to very positive on the platform.

Despite some hurdles on the critical front, Crimson Desert has been an overwhelming commercial success for Pearl Abyss. The game has already sold over 4 million copies worldwide, shipping 2 million units in under a day.

Furthermore, Crimson Desert has become a big hit on Steam, amassing over 240k concurrent users initially, but then hitting another peak over a week after its launch. This sort of performance is not normal for a single-player title, and the game is continuing its hot streak, topping Steam charts two weeks after its release.

Why it matters: A single-player title having such a sales tail showcases how players want a massive open-world with content depth instead of just multiplayer projects.

According to the Steam global top sellers ranking, Crimson Desert is still the best-selling paid title on the platform over two weeks after launching, based on revenue. Only free-to-play shooter Counter-Strike 2 is ahead of the game on the charts.

Indie darling Slay the Spire 2, horror hit Resident Evil Requiem, and even free-to-play games like Apex Legends are behind the open-world title.

Furthermore, Crimson Desert is still peaking with over 200,000 concurrent users on Steam despite being a single-player game. Most non-multiplayer titles start to drop off on the platform by this time, but Crimson Desert is showing no signs of stopping.

One reason for this is the humongous scope of the game, with many players reporting that not even half of the map is complete after playing for more than 200 hours. Furthermore, Pearl Abyss has provided unprecedented post-launch support for Crimson Desert, releasing patches immediately to address player concerns.

The game’s post-launch support has been second to none.

As a result, the open-world title’s score has improved to Very positive on Steam after initially being even lower than Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Do you think Crimson Desert deserves to have such consistent figures, or is the game’s success a fluke? Tell us in the comments below, or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

How Case Popularity Works In CS2

Story Highlight
  • Case openings are a huge part of CS2 today.
  • The likes of Revolution, Recoil, Clutch, and more are the most popular cases today.
  • Their popularity stems from accessibility, drop pools, etc.

Cases have an entire community built around them in CS2. The in-game marketplace has become the center of attention for millions of gamers around the globe, leading to consistent growth across third-party platforms as well.

In particular, the likes of CS2 case battle key-drop have seen plenty of activity and show that most users stick to a small group of cases.

Why it matters: Understanding trends and historical data is important when getting started with cases in CS2. This is why looking at the top cases is so significant.

Most Opened CS2 Cases

Wasteland Rebel CS2
CS2 Cases Contain All Sorts of Weapons

The most basic things that define case popularity are a mix of recognition among the skins, balanced drop pools, and reasonable entry costs. This is exactly why the list of most-opened 2026 cases includes familiar names.

For instance, the Revolution case offers a balanced pool of skins. It appeals to a huge range of players and can often be found in case battles and solo openings. On the other hand, the Recoil case is popular due to its accessibility.

The fact that the Recoil case isn’t too expensive makes it great for repeated openings, and it does not rely on a single high-value drop, making the package more enticing. Elsewhere, the Dreams & Nightmares brings distinct visual themes to the table.

This one appeals most to those who care about the aesthetic elements of skins, making it a common point of attention in mixed case battles. Among the older cases, Prisma 2 remains strong to this day.

The fact that it’s both old and reliable makes it popular among many players. Similarly, the Clutch case is another consistently popular option due to its consistent demand.

Why Older Cases Stay Relevant

The fact of the matter is that most people appreciate reliability and consistency. Old cases offer that in a way that new ones don’t, so gamers find themselves returning to the classics, even when newer cases make a major splash.

Case battles also decide which cases end up being popular. The more balanced a case is, the more likely it is to remain popular in these battles, which is why the likes of Recoil and Revolution are often part of battles.

Players also show a clear pattern when opening cases, alternating between new, older, and mid-range cases for the best results.

Choosing A CS2 Case

The basic idea here is to avoid chasing trends with a lot of hype behind them. Similarly, going after the highest drop can lead to gamers ignoring the other advantages of a specific case.

This is why it’s important to look at the overall case when buying. Mixing different cases is recommended, and finding balanced pools is also a good idea.

As CS 2 continues to evolve, so will its cases. This means that for anybody hoping to become part of the CS2 case scene, it’s important to understand the thought processes and strategies that go into case trading.

Good News For Gamers: Steam Deck 2 Expected To Arrive In 2028

Story Highlight
  • Valve targets 2028 for the sequel’s release, though high SSD costs could cause delays.
  • The company is skipping incremental upgrades in favor of a massive power jump that justifies a new generation.
  • Developers insist the hardware must deliver this performance boost without compromising current battery life.

Good news for console users: Valve has set a 2028 launch window for the Steam Deck 2. This information, shared by industry leaker Kepler_L2, suggests that Valve wants to release the Steam Deck successor next year.

It has been stated that the Steam Deck 2’s launch in 2028 will be dependent on the memory market. While RAM prices have fallen, NAND flash memory (SSD) prices have continued to grow. Therefore, if the current scenario does not change dramatically, Valve may be obliged to postpone the launch.

Steam Deck 2 IA

The Steam Deck 2 is taking its time, but for good reason: Valve wants its upcoming system to be genuinely incredible. To accomplish this, it requires a real performance boost, not just a “slightly better” increase. Unlike the industry, which has followed suit by introducing a handheld device (ASUS, MSI, or Lenovo), Valve intends to develop a substantially more powerful version of its current product.

They will not do what those manufacturers do, which is to release numerous versions of these devices with small performance differences, making them effectively worthless to individuals who already own the first-generation model.

Pierre-Loup Griffais, a software developer at Valve, stated in November 2025 that the business is not interested in achieving a 20%, 30%, or even 50% performance gain. And this performance boost must not only make a true generational difference, but also do so without sacrificing battery life.

In other words, Valve is delaying the successor because they believe the right chip does not yet exist. To give a significant performance boost while keeping battery life, they will need to use far more powerful hardware than is currently available, despite the fact that the Steam Deck was released four years ago.

For choosing an architecture, the simplest solution would be to return to AMD and capitalize on the work already done to optimize and support its x86 CPU and GPU architectures. As a result, they would choose AMD Zen 6 and RDNA 5/UDNA, respectively.

However, it is unclear whether Valve will examine other possibilities, such as Intel or, better yet, NVIDIA. It’s worth noting that NVIDIA is expected to announce its new N1 SoCs in June, featuring an Arm CPU and GeForce RTX graphics. Along with NVIDIA DLSS and Frame Generation, Valve would receive not only the necessary hardware but also superior software to further differentiate in the console market.

Sony Has Reportedly Informed Devs Its Already Preparing For Next-Gen Transition With PS6 and PS Handheld

Story Highlight
  • Sony is reportedly planning a traditional PS6 console and a PS Handheld for the next-gen.
  • The company is informing devs that it is already preparing to transition towards next-gen.
  • The recent PS5 Power Saving mode was a preparation to scale games on the handheld.

Next-gen consoles are reportedly being prepared for a launch in late 2027 or 2028 despite the ongoing memory crisis. Amid this, new reports and rumors have been circulating as to what we can expect from the next generations of hardware.

A new report even suggests that Sony has already started informing developers that it is preparing for the next-gen transition with the PS6 and the upcoming PS handheld. They are planning to make games more scalable for different devices.

Why it matters: Because of the slow start to current-gen, and the ongoing memory crisis, many expected that next-gen would be delayed; however, it seems that companies are already going full steam ahead.

Hardware leaker, Moore’s Law is Dead, revealed Sony is already planning a major transition towards the PS6 and its handheld devices. The power-saving mode introduced with the PS5 was already a step towards scaling games for handheld

Sony also reportedly introduced PlayGo with the latest PS5 SDK update, which works like Smart Delivery. It essentially allows you to play a game, while the remainder downloads in the background for faster access.

Developers Are Afraid To Say No To Todd Howard And Its Hurting Bethesda’s Performance, Says Former Developer

Story Highlight
  • According to former Bethesda character artist Dennis Mejillones, developers are afraid to say no to Todd Howard.
  • As a result, Bethesda is suffering because no one filters the studio head’s bad ideas.
  • The ex-developer also revealed that Howard doesn’t have much flexibility due to pressure from Microsoft.

With Elder Scrolls 6 still years away from launch and Starfield not turning out to be the smash hit everyone expected, Bethesda has lost some good grace with fans in the last few years. The studio has been consistently working on titles like Starfield, improving them free of cost with new updates.

However, the delayed new titles and their support of the divisive DLSS 5 have landed Bethesda in hot water. Now, an ex-character artist from the studio has stated that the current problems at Bethesda could be due to a flurry of yes-men working under Todd Howard.

Why it matters: Even the most celebrated and renowned artists have flaws, and Bethesda needs to realise that if it wants to make influential titles again.

In a 2025 interview with Kiwi Talkz, former Bethesda artist Dennis Mejillones said that a lot of people at Bethesda are afraid to say no to Todd Howard, and resultantly its hurting him and the studio.

Typically, though, I would communicate if I felt really strongly about it. You know me and Todd at least could communicate. A lot of people were afraid to say no to Todd, and I think that hurt him.

Mejillones explained that before leaving Bethesda in June 2021, he would very openly express his opinion on certain development decisions and communicate with Todd Howard to improve games.

However, other employees at the company were not willing to do so due to Howard’s celebrity status and reverence in the industry. Hence, the presence of yes-men is hurting Bethesda as the company can’t filter through the good and bad ideas of Todd Howard.

Starfield bethesda
Developers at the studio can’t say no to the bad ideas of Todd Howard.

Dennis Mejillones also emphasized that the Bethesda boss is a gaming great; however, even the best can come up with the wrong ideas, and the studio should have people who challenge them.

In addition, the former character artist revealed that Todd Howard doesn’t have the same freedom at present due to pressure from higher-ups at Microsoft, putting him in a difficult situation.

Sony Now Officially Dialing Back Multiplatform Strategy, Begins Removing Mentions Of PC From PlayStation Studios

Story Highlight
  • New evidence suggests Sony is pulling back on its multiplatform strategy.
  • It is removing mentions of the PC platform and emphasizing its focus on PlayStation in updated studio descriptions.
  • Rumors previously suggested that the company was adapting its strategy to focus on exclusives again.

As Xbox doubles down on its multiplatform strategy, new developments suggest that Sony is planning to do the opposite moving forward. It is reportedly moving away from launching PC ports of single-player first-party PlayStation titles in the future.

Besides the ongoing rumors, Sony has now added more fuel to the fire by officially dialing its multiplatform strategy. The company has updated its descriptions of PlayStation Studios, removing mentions of PC while emphasizing exclusives.

Why it matters: The updated PlayStation Studios descriptions appear to be Sony’s first official step towards emphasizing its focus on exclusives moving forward. This change comes after rumors that suggested the company is moving away from a multiplatform focus.

As seen on the official PlayStation site, the description for Valkyrie Entertainment no longer mentions PC as a platform. The studio has provided development support for various poster children of the PlayStation ecosystem, including Astro Bot, Helldivers 2, and GoW.

Similarly, the popular support studio, XDev, now emphasizes its focus on exciting ‘exclusive titles’ for PlayStation players worldwide. The developers have worked on popular gems like Until Dawn, Detroit: Become Human, and the Death Stranding franchise.

These descriptions were compared using the Wayback Machine. The rest of PlayStation Studios now discuss their accolades in more detail than before. However, besides Nixxes, no studio mentions PC ports despite the more wordy introductions.

sony playstation first party games
Most Sony First-Party Titles Likely Won’t Launch On PC.

Past rumors revealed that PlayStation canned Ghost of Yotei and Saros PC ports as it pulls away from its platform-agnostic strategy. Sony is focusing on exclusives going forward, since its single-player PC ports tend to attract fewer players than one might expect.

For context, its first-party games on PC only brought $300 million in over three years, which made the platform less than half as lucrative as the PS4 and PS5. These figures might have contributed to Sony’s decision to focus on exclusives once again.

Do you think Sony is going to stop releasing its first-party exclusives on PC moving forward, or will this shift towards exclusivity end up being more subtle than we thought? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

PS6 Being Designed To Be Cheaper Than PS5 Pro, Says Leaker

Story Highlight
  • Sony recently raised PS5 prices, bringing the PS5 Pro’s MSRP up to $900.
  • A prominent leaker recommends waiting for the PS6 instead of buying a brand-new PS5 or PS5 Pro.
  • He states that Sony is making an efficient and cheap console next generation and that it will cost less than the PS5 Pro.

Sony has recently raised prices of the PS5 family, making the most expensive console of the bunch, the PS5 Pro, as expensive as $900. With exciting games like GTA 6 right around the corner, this price hike has come as a major shock to many.

Many have recently purchased the PS5 Pro to avoid the new pricing, but a prominent leaker warns against buying the PS5 Pro in its current state. He states that the console would be best avoided for newcomers due to how expensive it has become and the fact that the PS6 is not too far away.

Why it matters: Millions were likely expecting to upgrade to the PS5 and PS5 Pro on the occasion of GTA 6’s release this year. It is now being suggested that waiting further is the better option.

In his latest video, Moore’s Law is Dead reaffirmed that PS6 is right around the corner and Sony is now planning for the transition from the PS5 to the PS6.

He highlights that Sony’s main objective with the PS6 is to have both PS5 and PS4 gamers shift to the new hardware. On the subject of pricing, the leaker states that the recent Sony price revisions aren’t too surprising.

However, he firmly believes people without a PS5 should now just wait for the next generation consoles. As per Moore’s Law is Dead, the next generation will be designed to be cheap and efficient to produce.

The leaker also says that the console will be smaller in size compared to the launch PS5, noting that the die shrink with the PS6’s SoC, among other things, should lead to it costing less than the PS5 Pro.

I do believe that the PS6 base console will be cheaper than the PS5 pro.

  • The director has now shared a teaser for a project that appears to bear a strong resemblance to the series’ locations.
  • Uncharted has remained dormant for nearly a decade, but fan demand for more games still exists.

Naughty Dog moved on from the Uncharted franchise nearly a decade ago, but fan demand for a return to the series has never been stronger. With Naughty Dog’s recent output limited to The Last of Us, many believe now is the time to return to Uncharted’s more action-focused nature.

Although Naughty Dog is currently hard at work on Intergalactic, not much else is known about the studio’s other endeavors. However, a recent image has given Uncharted some hope to cling to.

Why it matters: Uncharted set the stage for Naughty Dog’s unparalleled success in the single-player games genre, and many still believe that the series remains the developer’s best work to date.
