Flagship Xbox IP Could Go To PlayStation Soon!

Story Highlights
  • There have been many rumors of Xbox going multiplatform today.
  • Following these rumors, Microsoft is reportedly bringing Gears of War to other consoles.
  • According to an insider, this is under consideration, but no decision has been made yet.

Since the start of the year, rumors of Xbox going multiplatform are surfacing on the internet, with titles like Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves potentially coming to Nintendo and PlayStation consoles.

However, more credible sources have recently claimed that Microsoft is indeed planning to go this route. They state titles like Starfield, Xbox’s biggest exclusive in 2023, will be heading to PlayStation. This push could also include Gears of War.

Why it matters: It has been reported that Xbox hardware is dead for Microsoft as it is struggling against the PS5. Therefore, several flagship IPs could go multiplatform.

This report comes from reliable insider Jeff Grubb. During the latest episode of Giant Bomb, Jeff Grubb talked about the recent rumors of Xbox going multiplatform and releasing many titles on Nintendo and PlayStation.

While addressing all the rumors, Jeff Grubb added to the discussion and pointed to one of Microsoft’s biggest IPs. He said:

“The one that I’ve heard that’s definitely under consideration is Gears of War.”

However, he was quick to point out that this does not confirm a Gears of War game on PlayStation. At the same time, he asserted that Microsoft is definitely considering its option for this franchise.

This likely means that other flagship IPs like Halo and Forza are receiving similar treatment. Gears of War has been around since the days of the Xbox 360 and is currently considered one of Xbox’s most valuable assets.

Therefore, some may find this information disappointing. An analysis showed Xbox has more exclusives than PlayStation this generation, but this could change soon if Microsoft begins to release all games on rival platforms moving forward.

Gears of War Remake

Xbox is currently working on Gears 6. Rumors have also pointed to upcoming remasters of the original trilogy, so it will be interesting to see which games get ported to other consoles.

Ultimately, Xbox has a lot of explaining to do. The brand’s future may be more promising than ever, but fans are not too happy with the rumors making the rounds.

This can only be handheld with an upfront response from Xbox executives. Many are expecting the likes of Phil Spencer to elaborate soon, so fans can only stay tuned in the meantime.
