Dragon’s Dogma 2 Targets 60FPS On Consoles, Shows Analysis

Aiming For 60FPS But Might Be Inconsistent!

Story Highlights
  • A rumor from last week pointed to a 30FPS cap for Dragon’s Dogma 2 on PS5 & Xbox Series S|X.
  • An analysis on YouTube has debunked this claim.
  • According to this video, the game aims for 60FPS, even if it may not hit this target all of the time.

Last week, Dragon’s Dogma 2 caught flak after a report suggested it would end up among the few Capcom games to launch with a 30FPS frame rate on consoles.

This rumor remains unconfirmed for the time being, but an analysis on YouTube has debunked the claim, proving that Capcom is at least targeting 60FPS on console platforms.

Why it matters: 60FPS is now a crucial part of the console gaming experience for millions across the globe. Therefore, this analysis is relieving for Capcom’s latest AAA launch.

YouTube video

The video comes from OSK Gaming, who initially points out that the footage used for his analysis was captured on the PS5.

OSK Gaming uses DaVinci Resolve, dropping the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Action Trailer in the timeline to prove the game is not locked at 30FPS. Going frame by frame in this software shows that while the game might not be hitting a consistent 60FPS, it is uncapped and running above 30FPS.

According to the analysis, the game may hover around 40-50FPS during hectic moments. This was also the case with older Capcom games during the last generation, including Devil May Cry 5 from the same director.

While the Steam system requirements still mention 30FPS targets for the game, Capcom has yet to confirm the final specifications. In the past, games like Alan Wake 2 have shown that system requirements can often be wildly off, so this may be a similar case.

Dragon's Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is based on the RE Engine. This in-house technology from Capcom has become famous for its optimization, and it seems the latest AAA launch from the publisher will not disappoint.

The game is also set to mark Capcom’s transition to $70 AAA releases, so it is encouraging to see that this open-world RPG won’t be locked at 30FPS as the initial report suggested.

Capcom’s development of Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been going smoothly since early 2023.

Hopefully, this will translate to an optimized game at launch since many are patiently waiting to see the RE Engine handling this massive open world, unlike the linear games it typically excels in.
