Insomniac Wanted To Make Resistance 4 But Sony Rejected Pitch

"We Did Pitch Resistance 4, And It Was Wonderful"

Story Highlight
  • The former Insomniac CEO revealed that the studio intended to make Resistance 4 many years back.
  • A concept was pitched after plenty of thought, but Sony was not interested in the project.
  • Despite the IP’s dormant nature, fans are still interested in another entry.

Insomniac is easily one of PlayStation’s best studios at the moment. Following critically acclaimed hits like Spider-Man 2 and a rich history with platformers, the developer has risen to new heights in recent years.

However, leaks from 2023 show that Insomniac has its hands full with Marvel IPs. Looking at the situation, fans yearn for additional variety from the studio, and a recent interview highlights that this is something the studio likely agrees with. At one point, it even pitched Resistance 4 to Sony.

Why it matters: Various IPs from the PS3 era have been abandoned for years, with Resistance being one of them. Since Sony is currently struggling to come up with timely first-party releases, these IPs can be brought back today.

Speaking during the latest Kinda Funny Gamescast, the former Insomniac CEO said that Resistance 4 was a wonderful pitch from the studio. He highlighted that the team was very passionate about the IP and believed that there was potential to expand the series’ story further.

Unfortunately, Sony rejected the pitch, and Ted Price believes this was mainly due to the timing. At that point, PlayStation was more focused on flagship IPs that would sell millions of copies, something that Spider-Man accomplished.

Still, the former CEO acknowledged that Resistance was special. He also noted that the opportunity to direct the first two games of the series continues to be a career highlight.

We did pitch that one (Resistance 4), and it was a wonderful concept. In terms of timing and market opportunity, it didn’t work out.
