  • The new update from Ninja Theory gives a deeper insight into the game.
  • The game will launch on 21 May.

After what seemed like years of waiting, Microsoft has finally announced the release date for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 at today’s Xbox Developer Direct. The sequel to 2017’s title is one of the most sought-after games for 2024, and it’s just a matter of a few more months before we can play it.

Why it matters: 2023 wasn’t the best year for Microsoft despite the many first-party releases, but Hellblade 2 could be the big AAA title that helps redeem the gaming giant’s exclusive lineup this year.

Hellblade 2

Prior to the Direct, a reliable leaker predicted a 21 May launch for the game. As expected, this is the exact date Xbox has announced today.

In the latest footage, Ninja Theory shows the team’s dedication to crafting a complex and immersive narrative. The studio has taken every element of the first game to a new level, making sure the wait will be worth it.

There are more than a few reasons why Hellblade 2 is on a lot of people’s bucket lists. The first title came out of nowhere and blew us all away with its unique narrative last generation.

Senua’s struggle with paranoia and her inner thoughts were beautifully portrayed. These elements are being expanded upon in Hellblade 2, thanks to the new technology at Ninja Theory’s disposal.

The latest footage showcases more of the spectacle that the graphics and environment bring in the sequel. It also explains how Senua has developed since the last game and the challenges that await her.

Overall, Hellblade 2 looks like a fine addition to Xbox’s first-party lineup this year.

Still, we would love to see more variety of enemies and combat mechanics. The developers hint that this part of the game has also received a lot of attention, so we hope to see the game delivering on all fronts on 21 May.

It has been wonderful to see Ninja Theory’s journey with Hellblade 2. Audiences have been anticipating this release since its initial reveal at The Game Awards 2019, and this journey is finally coming to an end soon.
