Xbox Year-to-Date US Console Sales Hit All-Time Low, PlayStation Also At Lowest Since 2013

Sales Don't Look Good Despite The Upcoming GTA 6!

Story Highlight
  • Xbox console sales fall to their lowest ever point in the US, down 33% from last year.
  • PS5 sales have also fallen 25%, which is also the lowest it has been in 13 years.
  • Both the consoles are also at their highest prices of all time in the region.

Console sales were expected to jump considerably due to GTA 6; however, things don’t look that promising. The prices for both PS5 and Xbox Series are at their highest of all time, with the PS5 Pro price exceeding well over $1,200.

Now, an analyst has revealed that Xbox console sales have hit their all-time low year-to-date in the US. Interestingly, PS5 sales have also fallen considerably, and sales have fallen to their lowest in over a decade.

Why it matters: With GTA 6 just on the horizon, many expected sales would jump to new levels, but this new report reveals that things have now taken a turn in a completely opposite direction.

From Circana's US Retail Tracking Service:For 2026 YTD ending August, Xbox hardware unit sales are down 33% versus a year ago in the US, while PlayStation hardware units are 25% lower.Xbox YTD US hardware unit sales are at an all-time low, while PlayStation is at lowest point since 2013.

Circana’s Matt Piscatella revealed that Xbox hardware unit sales are down 33%, compared to last year, while PS5 saw a decline of about 25%. This, again, is the lowest level Xbox has ever hit in its history in the region.

The data also reveals the difference in price consumers paid for the consoles compared to last year. On average, for the Series X, buyers paid $529, 26% higher than last year. PS5 sold for $597, 20% higher than the last year.

Console sales are struggling tremendously despite the incoming GTA 6

These are also the highest prices these consoles have ever hit in the US. GTA 6 is still expected to somwhat boost the sales, but things don’t look too good. The situation overall doesn’t seem good for consumers and companies.
