Story Highlight
  • Black Flag Resynced has earned more from the PS5 than Xbox and Steam combined.
  • The title has sold 1.7 million copies on the console, bringing in $109 million in revenue.
  • The remake was also the third-best-selling title on the platform last month.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has turned out to be a revelation for Ubisoft. The remake has succeeded on all fronts, earning critical acclaim while breaking sales records. The game reached its annual sales target in just two weeks, pushing the total sales of the Assassin’s Creed franchise above 250 million.

Black Flag Resynced even blew the previous title in the franchise out of the water, opening with 2x more sales than Assassin’s Creed Shadows. As it turns out, the Ubisoft remake can attribute most of its success to one platform: PS5.

Why it matters: With the title performing this well on PS5, it won’t be surprising to see Ubisoft pivot to developing more remakes in the near future.

According to a report from Alinea Analytics, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced generated more revenue on PS5 than on Xbox and Steam combined. The game has sold 1.7 million copies on the console as of August 3rd, 2026, bringing in $109 million in gross revenue from PS5.

Black Flag Resynced was also the third-best-selling title in the PlayStation ecosystem last month, only falling behind the re-releases of Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 & 2, which came out on both PS4 and PS5. Interestingly, 25% of the players who bought the game opted for a physical disc, higher than the average for other PlayStation titles.

Besides its success on the PS5, Black Flag Resynced also had the biggest Steam launch for an Assassin’s Creed title in history, setting a new concurrent player peak while racking up a hefty profit through microtransactions

Considering the incredible success of the title, it is no surprise that Ubisoft now believes that remakes can earn more profit than new releases. With large story DLCs and full-year support already planned for Black Flag Resynced, this sales total is only going to go up on PS5 and Steam.
