Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced could finally turn the ship around for Ubisoft, becoming their biggest release of the 2020s so far. On launch, the remake sold 2 million copies and now has a solid 9.0 user score on Metacritic.
The release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has now also pushed the entire franchise’s sales to 250 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling series in gaming history.
Why it matters: The Assassin’s Creed franchise spans over more than 10 entries and, thanks to its interactive historical telltale, has truly found its way with the gamers.
Through its press release on Game Press, Vantage Studios, the new subsidiary that Ubisoft formed alongside Tencent, announced that the franchise has now sold 250 million copies.
As of 2025, the total franchise sales were at 230 million, and in just a year, the franchise had sold 20 million copies. Throughout the 2020s, the total franchise sales erupted from 155 million to 250 million, that’s 95 million copies sold in just 6 years.
Previously, the Assassin’s Creed franchise faced scrutiny following the launch of Shadows, but the release of Black Flag Resynced has evoked nostalgia in fans again, with Ubisoft revisiting one of the best entries in the series.
More remakes are to follow in the future, and the next entry, Assassin’s Creed Hexe, is also shaping up to be a nice project. Previous reports suggested that Ezio from the Assassin’s Creed II trilogy could be featured in the project, but that remains to be seen.
Anyhow, Assassin’s Creed fans can expect great things from the franchise going forward, especially under the new Vantage Studios subsidiary, the series could return to the former glory that it was once regarded for.
