Gears of War E-Day reviews recently came out making it one of the best-rated Xbox games in the last few years, and also a brilliant return to the company’s exclusives. While reports predicted low sales, the reviews might’ve won people over. In its early access that kicked off a few hours ago, Gears E-Day garnered over 20K players, which is remarkable considering Gears of War 5 peaked at just around 10K players on Steam, signalling decent sales for the new title. Why it matters: Gears has never been the most mainstream franchise ever; that is quite apparent from the last game’s peak player count. However, with the glowing reviews, the new entry could open it to more players. Gears E-Day is set to fully release on October 6, but those who bought the premium edition were given early access starting on October 1st. During that early access, the game hit a peak player count of over 20K. We are still due for the weekend, so the player base might increase a bit more. However, seeing how skeptical people were about it, reaching this number of players just in the early access is quite commendable. We’ll see on October 6 what the actual fan turnout is, but the debut is surely promising. What doesn’t help the game is the fact that it’s on Game Pass as well, but Xbox is reportedly considering removing Day 1 exclusives from the service.
