Halo Infinite Made $500 Million In Revenue During Its First Year

Expert Verified By

The Game Was Originally Supposed To Be Supported For 10 Years With Annual DLCs.

Story Highlight
  • According to a former producer, Halo Infinite generated $500 million in its first year alone.
  • The game hit a peak concurrent player count of 200k across all platforms, according to new data.
  • Halo Infinite originally had a 10-year roadmap and a sequel planned, but both were cancelled for a fresh start.

Following the release of Campaign Evolved, the Halo franchise has found itself in an even worse situation than before. The remake only sold 1.2 million copies despite launching on PS5, with current-gen ports of decades-old Call of Duty games vastly outselling the title.

Due to the leadership issues and management problems at Halo Studios, rumors currently suggest Activision might be stepping in to save the franchise. Amidst this dire situation, new data has revealed that Halo Infinite, which also struggled due to the issues plaguing the developer, actually made a significant amount of revenue.

Why it matters: If Microsoft had stuck with the original vision for Halo Infinite and its sequel, the franchise might have ended up in better shape than it is now following the shift to Unreal Engine 5.

According to the LinkedIn profile of Erika L. Rosefall, who worked as a producer at Halo Studios, Halo Infinite made up to $500 million in gross revenue during its first year alone. The producer reveals on her profile that the title reached a concurrent player peak of 200k across all platforms, while bringing in $300-$500 million for Microsoft.

Considering how Halo Infinite only became profitable in 2024 despite grossing this much, these numbers are another indication of the studio’s mismanagement ballooning the game’s budget. With such a strong start in year one, the title could have gone on to be a cash cow for Xbox if it stuck with the original 10-year plan that involved annual DLCs.

However, the chaotic environment at the studio resulted in the entire overarching plan for Halo Infinite getting canned, including a Battle Royale Mode and a sequel.

A sequel to the game was cancelled because the studio wanted a fresh start for the franchise.

With the remake of Halo 2 now in jeopardy and original developers becoming hopeless about the IP, the studio’s decision to cancel the Halo Infinite sequel in favor of a fresh start feels a little more disastrous with every passing day.
