This decade has been anything but perfect for the Halo brand. From the underwhelming performance of Halo Infinite to the leadership issues plaguing Halo Studios, the IP has seen some really turbulent times in the last few years.
Now, a new report has given us more information about the company’s original plan for the IP, which apparently included three new titles, while confirming the uncertain future of Halo Studios.
Why it matters: Seeing one of the most iconic franchises in gaming going through such turbulent times is hard to see, and one can only hope that Xbox can correct the structure of Halo Studios.
As revealed by Rebs Gaming in a new video, Halo Studios originally intended to launch three new games in the span of three years, but handling multiple projects at once turned out to be too much for the leadership.
Campaign Evolved was the only one that made it out of production, and the other two titles, namely a new campaign and a Battle Royale titled Project Ekur, were eventually cancelled. The latter was a multiplayer Battle Royale being developed in Unreal Engine 5 that was originally an extraction shooter.
However, as Halo Campaign Evolved was in rough shape, studio head Pierre Hintze told staff to focus on its development and cancelled Project Ekur soon after. In addition, the next campaign was supposed to start production alongside the multiplayer title, but Halo Studios failed to create a proper vision and couldn’t even hire a director for the game.

As a result, the project went into limbo, and to make matters worse, the studio has no other campaign or multiplayer titles in development right now, only early concepts. Rebs also stated that there is uncertainty around the remakes, and nobody has even heard of the rumored MMO.
The future of Halo Studios is currently uncertain as there are no projects in active development, and the YouTuber believes there may even be layoffs after Campaign Evolved launches.
