A Halo MMO Could Be Huge If Done Right!

Story Highlight
  • A Destiny-like Halo MMORPG could be in development, as teased by the studio head in an interview.
  • Pierre Hintze says it can be a rewarding experience where large groups are doing objectives or raids in an MMO.
  • Rumors of an MMO game being in development from various sources have existed for a while.

Halo IP has faced turbulent times over the years, and a new batch of rumors even suggested that Xbox is considering putting the flagship franchise under Activision. Therefore, the series needs a drastic resurgence to escape further failures and realize its full potential.

In a resurfaced interview, Halo Studios head Pierre Hintze implies that a Destiny 2-like Halo MMO RPG could be in the works. This official tease corroborates rumors from multiple insiders who have made similar claims over the last few months.

Why it matters: A Halo MMO experience would be a drastic genre change and could see the franchise attract an entirely different audience. If done well, such a multiplayer title could be as popular as Destiny 2 in its heyday.

Speaking to the STEM Educational Institute on YouTube, Halo Studios head Pierre Hintze teases the MMO title while discussing the genre from an industry-wide perspective.

The team is looking at how Halo can evolve, aiming to blur the experience between human and non-human players. He says while it can be rewarding to win a 1v1 against another player in an FPS, it’s also satisfying to complete objectives together in an MMO.

It is also incredibly rewarding if you guys are completing an objective or completing a raid in an MMO and you see the solidarity and the help and support we can lend each other.

Fans argue this tease corroborates ongoing rumors supported by reliable insiders like @TechnicalHalo, who claim that a Halo ‘MMOFPS’ prototype has been in development for a while. The insider adds that the prototype was in development as late as 3-4 months ago, but its current status is unclear.

.

Technical Halo said his trusted source confirmed the rumored Halo MMO prototype is real.

Similarly, another source added that his friend with knowledge of the game said that the Halo MMO experience will focus on you playing a role as a soldier, similar to ODST.

There will be various quests on different planets, PVP, raids, and dungeons—think Destiny 2 but in the Halo universe.
