Halo is one of the most popular and oldest Xbox-exclusive franchises. While there have always been rumours of developers working on a battle royale mode, nothing has been officially revealed about it.

However, one of the developers who worked at Halo Infinite support studio Certain Affinity had listed a canceled battle royale mode for the game on his LinkedIn profile, stating it could’ve been a game changer for the franchise.

Why it matters: Fans of the Halo franchise have waited a long time for the battle royale mode but have never officially received one.

As spotted by Gamespot, Mike Clopper, one of the former game directors at Halo support studio Certain Affinity, wrote on his LinkedIn page about the cancelled battle royale mode.

I led a large team of designers working on a canceled Battle Royale mode for Halo.

Further talking about the mode, he wrote that it could have been a game changer for the franchise as they had a great time working and playing it.

I believe this product could have been a game changer for the franchise.

While he does not mention the reason for the project’s cancelation, he confirmed that the mode had been canceled after being worked on for a while.

Following the success of titles like PUBG and Fortnite, Halo Battle Royale was rumored to be in development. 

Nonetheless, the franchise has seen massive changes recently and has been confirmed to be switching to UE5. Recent reports have also suggested that the developers will use generative AI in the next game.
