Nvidia Confirms DLSS 5 Will Come to RTX 40 Series GPUs Down The Line

Will Arrive After Nvidia Is Done Optimizing it For RTX 50 GPUs!

Story Highlight
  • Nvidia has revealed that it does plan to release DLSS on the RTX 40 series GPUs too.
  • It will take time, as they are currently optimizing it for the RTX 50 series lineup.
  • The updated DLSS model costs a whopping 50-60% hit on performance.

Nvidia showcased the full potential of the next generation of DLSS a couple of days ago. It is rather controversial, especially because of the new AI neural rendering, but it is curious too, since it can genuinely lift the visuals in certain scenarios.

Interestingly, Nvidia has confirmed that its last-gen GPUs will also support DLSS 5, as they do plan to release it for the RTX 40 series down the line, but it’ll take time, as they’re focused on the RTX 50 series right now.

Why it matters: It was believed that Nvidia would lock these new features to its latest GPU lineup due to their more advanced architecture, but it seems they have a way of bringing them to the older GPUs as well.

The RTX 40 GPUs will also get the latest DLSS 5 later down the line

In a PR to Wccftech, Nvidia stated that once the performance of DLSS 5 is fully tuned on the RTX 50 series GPUs, they plan on expanding support to the RTX 40 series as well. However, it isn’t clear what features will eventually come.

The company usually caters to previous GPUs with new features, but there’s mostly a suite of new things that is locked to the latest series. The most prominent example is multi-frame generation, which is locked to the RTX 50 cards.

The company is currently focused on optimizing the new tech

DLSS 5 will obviously have slight improvements in visuals and performance, but Nvidia is marketing the new rendering as its main selling point. However, it still performs terribly, as it costs a whopping 50-60% performance loss

Since the RTX 40 series doesn’t support multi-frame generation either, the tech giants will have to find a way to optimize it thoroughly before reaching for older generations, and that might take some time.
