Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Underperforms With Less Than 500K Sales In Launch Week

Tokon Isn't Doing Too Great For A Blockbuster Marvel Release!

Story Highlight
  • Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has sold under 500,000 copies in its launch week.
  • More than 70% of the sales come from PS5, leaving the Steam platform with a very small number of units sold.
  • Most of the game’s audience also seems to come from the US.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is facing early issues. Following a botched PC release and dwindling player counts, the game’s first week performance figures have been revealed by an analyst.

It seems Marvel’s brand new fighting game hasn’t been the smash hit it should have been.

Why it matters: Marvel excitement is at an all-time high right now, thanks to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Moreover, fans have been wanting a Marvel-based fighter forever due to the legacy of Marvel vs. Capcom.

According to Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliot on Twitter, the PlayStation-backed fighter sold less than 500K units during its first week on the market.

It is said that the PS5 accounts for 74% of the estimated 485K sales, which isn’t too surprising after the PC port’s many reported issues. Similarly, most of the game’s audience seems to reside in the US.

This means that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is somewhat failing to appeal to the Japanese crowd, which is traditionally a huge audience for all things fighting games. As per the analyst, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls would have had a shot at 1 million sales during its launch week had it not been held back by problems on PC.

Alinea Analytics reports that the game’s player base does seem to show an overlap with that of other fighting games. However, over half of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls players have also played recent Marvel titles like the PlayStation Spider-Man games and Marvel Rivals.

Although this means that the game isn’t doing terribly by any means, it isn’t living up to its full potential. Perhaps sales will pick up the pace as the game matures and adds more content.
